Description
Soft chewy candy that came in orange, grape, red (cherry?) and (I think) chocolate. (Orange and Grape were the best). They had a lighter shade of color on the outside and a darker shade on the inside. They were square like Starburst and DELICIOUS!! Then again, so were the 80's!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to love these! I remember the commercials: a doofy looking actor popped a candy in their mouth and were crushed by giant fruit falling from the sky. Good stuff, those 80's commericals...

When I was a little kid, my pediatrician used to give me Bonkers after every visit. He actually used to drop pieces of candy on my head, and I always used to wonder why. (I don't remember the commercial, apparently. LOL.)

I remember these being incredibly good... of all the things in the 80's, I probably miss these and Giggles cookies the most. However, I recently found something very similar. Hi-Chew candies seem to be a lot like Bonkers- fruit-flavored, shaped like little chewy bricks with a pale outer layer and a darker center. You can find them at oriental food stores sometimes, or, failing that, buy them online from Japanese snack sites.

I remember that crazy skinny lady that ran around going "bonkers"

In school we invented a game called Bonker Ball, using the candy as a ball and these little art class carving tools as sticks. I remember the rules would change a lot like Calvin & Hobbes' sports. Didn't get much work done in that class.

It's a bit strange. I never once tried the candy itself. But the ads with the crazy "Bonkers Lady" and the giant fruit falling on the kids was very memorable!
