It's difficult to adequately describe how delicious Post Fortified Oat Flakes were, to those who never had the pleasure of tasting it, but I'll try to do so. First, it's important to note that it wasn't a sugared or frosted cereal. There was indeed a slight sweetness to it, yet it was a sweetness that enhanced rather than hid the taste of the oats. I suspect that there was perhaps a touch of malt in the recipe. If anyone has an old box, I would appreciate some photos and a listing of the ingredients. Second, the flakes were firm and light and, although it might be said that they didn't stay crunchy very long when in milk, the cereal maintained its great taste regardless. I personally have called Post to ask them why it is no longer on the market and received a rather nebulous answer from them that hinted at the probability of a business (lack of profit?) motive that I suppose all cereal manufacturers have to make from time to time. It's a shame that people like us, who regularly and loyally sought-out this brand for its quality, perhaps didn't represent a large enough market share for Post to keep this delightful product on the shelves! A note to Post: Fortified Oat Flakes are better than a mere walk through nostalgia for those of us who enjoyed it before and who would buy it again and again, were Post to bring it back. To those who made this same search, call Post and tell them you want it back!
