I was a sales manager in Iowa for Frito-Lay when the O'Gradys brand was launched and they were an instant hit. I doubt anyone remembers this but the chips were originally cut left to right on one side of the chip and top to bottom on the other side. The cut was fairly quickly changed to a cut similar to what you see with Ruffles. The original cut was pretty cool and necessary to thoroughly cook the chip given it's thickness. O'Gradys was unable to become a national brand and F-L eventually pulled the plug on it, but it was a huge seller in Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, and Kansas.
