Top Ten Lists of Eighties Movies

The concept is pretty easily, pick your ten favorite movies from the eighties. The hard part? I want JUST movies from the eighties, not movies you might have seen during the eighties. Also, try and avoid movies that came out after the eighties if possible, 1990 is pretty borderline, I won't scream too loudly if you add one that is from then...

  • 10. Goonies
Come on, what 10 to 15 year old didn't want to go on an adventure like that?
  • 9. Heathers
You see why they called Christian Slater a young Jack Nicholson. "Greetings and salutations." I love my dead gay son." Great final scene...Winona just standing there with the cigarette dangling from her lips (I wonder if she stole that too).
  • 8. St. Elmo's Fire
The whole brat pack minus Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall (they were probably off making a movie together) . The Breakfast Club goes to college. Great theme song.
  • 7. Say Anything
One of the most underrated movies of all time. Even then, John Cusack was great. One of the most memorable scenes ever...Boombox over the head blaring out "In Your Eyes."
  • 6. Indiana Jones And The...
pick one. Second best trilogy of all time (Yeah, Harrison Ford was in the best trilogy of all time too, but that one started in the 70's). Every one was full of great action and adventure and some of the best one liners ever.
  • 5. Back To The Future
Great premise, good music and the perfect character for Michael J. Fox. The best of the trilogy.
  • 4. Footloose
Great music, cool dance moves and teenagers questioning authority and religion. Throw in a game of chicken on tractors and what more could you ask for? Best soundtrack of the 80's.
  • 3. Top Gun
Greatest pick up scene ever on the big screen..."You've Lost that Lovin' Feelin'." "I feel the need, the need for speed." "Take me to bed or lose me forever." Second best soundtrack of the 80's.
  • 2. Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Memorable scenes, cool convertible, and a beautiful girl. Combine this with great music choices, some references about the Beatles and Matthew Broderick at his funniest and you get the number two movie of the 1980's.
  • 1. The Breakfast Club
Best teenage angst movie ever made in a decade that was all about teenage angst. One of the greatest theme songs of all time...Simple Minds with "Don't You Forget About Me".
Others worth mentioning...Dirty Dancing, Molly Ringwald flicks, Ice Castles, Rocky III (great theme song, especially if your school mascot was a tiger), Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Princess Bride, Revenge of the Nerds, Karate Kid and Bachelor Party. Oh, and of course, the two movies that were part of the greatest trilogy of all time that were in the 80's...The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. In summation, the best way to make a movie in the 80's was to take some teenage angst (the more the better) throw in some good songs and humor and you were off to a solid start.
