Top Ten Lists of Eighties Movies

The concept is pretty easily, pick your ten favorite movies from the eighties. The hard part? I want JUST movies from the eighties, not movies you might have seen during the eighties. Also, try and avoid movies that came out after the eighties if possible, 1990 is pretty borderline, I won't scream too loudly if you add one that is from then...

  • 10. The Burbs/Christmas Vacation
Sorry, I need 11 choices and I only have ten. The Burbs is proof that Tom Hanks can do good comedy. It has some great lines. "I've never seen anyone drive their garbage to the curb and just bang the hell out of it with a stick... I've... just never seen that." Christmas Vacation should probably have placed higher. So many great scenes. The lingerie counter, the cat wrapped as a gift, the great lines... "oh my, did I pass wind?" "JESUS, did the room clear out?" "I couldn't be more surprised if I woke up with my head sewn to the carpet". See these movies ASAP if you haven't already. They're both great.
  • 9. Above the Law
Yes, I love action movies, and I'm a martial artist. Steven Seagal may have done just about everything he can to kill his career other than sleeping with Michael Jackson, but he is definitely one of the top Aikido practicioners in the world. It is such a shame that he let everything go. Ugh. His first (and Marked for Death) are his best. Don't see it for the acting, or the story, see it because it is likely your only chance of seeing a martial artist at this high a level. The only other chance we've had is Bruce Lee.
  • 8. April Fools Day
Thriller that's low on budget and high on tension. Very creepy at times. Very funny at times. This is one that I went to with no expectations and loved it. How often does that happen today? NEVER! Whatever happened to Amy Steel? She was a cutie.
  • 7. Rocky 3 (and 4)
Need to win a marathon? Watch the fight at the end of the movie. If this doesn't get you on your feet and your blood pumping, check your pulse because you may be dead. Rocky 4 isn't written as well as its predecessors, but you can't go wrong with an action movie with Sly in it. I will meet this man some day. The fact that Sly isn't making blockbuster action movies anymore is one of the biggest problems with the world today. Think about it. :)
  • 6. The Lost Boys
Great movie. An un-scary horror film with a great cast and a great soundtrack.
  • 5. The Breakfast Club
A must see for anyone who lived in, knows someone who grew up in, or can say "1980s".
  • 4. Ferris Bueller's Day Off
This was just a huge amount of fun to see the first time. You find yourself smiling so often. So, can someone tell me why Ferris is not yet the President of the United States??
  • 3. The Terminator
I always liked Arnold. Way back to "Pumping Iron". The direction in the Terminator was great, the actors were great, the tension was great, I fell in love with Linda Hamilton, and I can't believe it's almost 19 years old!!!
  • 2. RAMBO: First Blood Part 2
Come on everybody! I'm amazed that NO ONE is listing this one! You know you loved it! No, it isn't shakespeare, but what other movie makes you want to step out of the theater and into the ring with Mike Tyson?? And after watching this, you might be on such an adrenaline high you might WIN! Sly is the best.
  • 1. Raiders of the Lost Ark
I was so surprised when I saw this in the theater. I thought my dad was dragging me to a boring movie. HA! This is one of my top 3 favorite movies of all time. I could watch it every day.

I'll be 31 years old next month. I grew up in the 80s and oh how I miss that great decade. The Brat Pack ruled! Things were so simple then. I really don't see many movies since the 80's that have that kind of longevity. I don't think kids, in 20 years, will be watching Clueless and Can't Hardly Wait. Just my opinion!

These are in no particualr order, no comments made on the movies because they are all so good for different reasons. The first Indianna Jones movie I saw was The Last Crusade, even so, I never knew it was the last installment until I was older. What a dummy I was. :) Oh and to the person who put the movie Crooklyn as one of their favorites, that movie was made in 1994. Just thought I'd let you know. Some of my choices are not the 'fave' choices, but I still like them.
