Big Country, "Steeltown" / 1984 Review by: Daniel Arkin
The BEST Big Country album ever! "Steeltown" took the melodic crunch of the debut album & consolidated it into an even harder concept album that examined the plight of Scotland, past & present. How many rock bands (besides Iron Maiden, perhaps) write thoughtful songs about WWII & its aftermath?? From the opening amazing bass riff of "Flame of the West" to the gorgeous closer "Just a Shadow," this is an album of powerful, wistful & hopeful observation & self-examination.
