Description
Boy one guy works his heart out on a new product and 20 years later he gets a "food" note on a food website.... I worked on Circus Fun Cereal and I think there is information you may want to include. The product started as concept idea that was first screened on paper a year before it was brought to market, at the time one of the fastest concept to market cereal products General Mills had ever had. The product was the first individual multicolored cereal piece to reach market. The idea of the product was that the round "beach" Ball shaped multicolored ball and the firery red hoops would be used by the marshmellow animals as props for there center ring adventures. I got the idea for the multicolor balls from the paint used in car trunks. It is known as spatter paint and we used this technique to apply color to the outside of a cereal piece for the first time. Now there are better ways to do this and most folks will forget the product but you at least will know the story. Best Wishes NT

I have a very large Circus Fun Cereal poster that I just found in a closet. I used to work for Big G as a sales rep. I think it was part of some promo kit I got.

Wow! It's so fun to see that at least two other people have heard of this cereal! My brother and I used to LOVE it and were so disappointed when it disappeared from the shelves. We were children of the 80's and have a hippie-ish mother who wouldn't let us eat sugar, but for our birthdays, we could pick out any box of "sugar cereal" that we wanted. For several years, there was no question, I wanted the Circus cereal in the black box! The main challenge was keeping my brother from eating it all in one sitting :-)

"it's Circus Fun, it's in your bowl and you're gonna wanna go flyin'/for horses and hoops, balls and bears, elephants and lions! (AND TIGERS!)" that jingle's been taking up brain space for years, i loved the cereal!

Ha! Me too! I remember it as "It's Circus Fun right in your bowl and everyone wants to come try 'em, with horses, hoops, balls, bears, elephants and lions. This commercial haunts me.

As a child of the eighties I am sad that I've never even heard of such a cereal. Sounds like it was a blast! Wish I could be a part of your nostalgia.I miss the eighties ... well, maybe not.

There were so much cereal that I wanted to try, and my mom was on this health kick, I grew up eating Total, Corn Flakes and Grape Nuts, The sweetest cereal I had as a kid was Rasin Brand. I always figured when I was grown I will buy what ever cereal I liked Circus Fun Cereal being one of them, but they took them off the shelves. Not fair.

This cereal had such a great, unique flavor...I loved it! Every once in awhile I'll get an aftertaste of nostalgia in my mouth and it'll take me a minute to remember why it's familiar....and then I remember this cereal and am sad all over again that it's been discontinued. Other things have made a comeback over the years, why not this, too??

I loved this cereal, one of the few sweet cereals I was allowed to have once in awhile. I also saved up proof of purchase thingys and got the tiger striped pencils that they offered once. I think they even had my name on them.

My brothers and I saved proof of purchases and saved our allowance to get the Circus Fun watches. They flipped open and the digital time was inside the cover. I loved it! I think the watch band was made of a green stripe ribbon...

Seeing this page and all these comments makes me really happy. This is my all-time favorite cereal and when I think about it, I can still remember the unique taste. My favorite cereal piece was the red circus ring. I don't know why, but that totally made my day as a kid. Thanks for sharing, everybody!

That clown still scares me

Years ago I cut out the front of the box and framed it. To this very day the picture is on my wall! I don't remember how it tasted. The reason I was attracted to it in its day was my mom was completely health food and this cereal was 180 degrees its opposite. I was a teenager when Circus Fun was on the shelves - mid 40s now, and still am amused by my picture of the front of the box!

I loved this cereal as a kid. I couldn't remember the name but I recalled the black box with the clown and animals jumping through a hoop. I bought Kaboom a couple times thinking it was it recently and it isn't even close. I am glad someone had a picture because now I know what cereal it was. I wish it was still made, along with Rocky Road...I remember watching Poltergeist and eating it. :)

I loved this cereal as a kid because I had my heart set (at the time) of being a circus clown when I grew up. I see boxes of it pop up on ebay at times for ridiculous money of course, but someone is also making nice looking fridge magnets of the box for cheap. Wish they would bring this cereal back.

OMG...loved this cereal! I too have asked others if they remember the circus cereal. I started to believe I imagined it! Thank goodness I was not the only 80's kid enjoying circus animals for breakfast! Wish it could come back.

Does ANYONE have the followup commercial in which the new animal is revealed to be the baby tiger? I can't find it anywhere.

Circus Fun cereal came out in 1986, a couple months after I got my drivers license at the age of 16. For some reason my friend and I were obsessed with the cereal, but being that we lived in Vancouver, Canada, the cereal wasn't available in our stores. But we'd always see the commercials on the american tv channels we got on cable. So anyway, as soon as my probationary period of a couple months was finished on my drivers license, we set off on a trek to Bellingham, WA. to buy as much Circus Fun as we could afford. Needless to say the cereal did not disappoint; the cereal pieces were so saturated in dye that the dyes themselves were components in the unique flavor of Circus Fun. I also remember that on the way back on the freeway, I almost killed us and had to momentarily pull over to the shoulder of the highway. We were driving back and my friend had pulled out his first handful of Circus Fun cereal and crammed it in his mouth. When he declared "It tastes like Froot Loops" in a somewhat hollow slightly disappointed tone, I for some reason found it absolutely hysterical, in fact I can attest to this day, at the age of 43, I have never laughed so hard at anything else. I'm sure this attests to my poor sense of humor, but the point of the story is I was driving and laughing so hard I was swerving everywhere at 70mph, and that was the first time I'd ever driven on the freeway, having hardly mastered regular speed driving at that point...

I was born in 1984. I vividly remember eating this cereal. One year, I got a box as a christmas present. My mom hid it under the sink. I’ve asked my family if they remembered this cereal. All these years, they said I was making this up. I knew I wasn’t. So fun to read about all these memories. Big hugs.
