I remember the taste likening to Frankenberry. I used to get strawberry shakes from McDonald's, and they would remind me of Smurf Cereal. If I'm not mistaken, weren't they the same shape of Fruity Pebbles?

There were actually 2 Smurf cereals in the 80's, both made by Post. The first cereal was called Smurf-Berry Crunch, and was made of corn, oat and wheat and shaped like red and blue berries. The old cereal box I have is dated 1983 and the price tag on the bottom flap is $1.67 for a 11oz box. The box has Papa Smurf on the front holding a spoon of the cereal and Smurfette and two other Smurfs in the background picking the smurfberries off of a bush. My mother never let me buy this cereal, as she said it had too much sugar! The second Smurf cereal was called Smurf Magic Berries, and is dated 1989. It was a blue box with only Papa Smurf on the front holding a piece of the cereal in his hand. This version of the cereal did have marshmallows in it, much like Lucky Charms.

God, I sure remember this stuff. It had a very, VERY, potent chemical taste, almost certainly from the dark blue 'berries'. It was atrocious and it ended up going stale because no one could stand it. Sure enough, though, a few months later my brother and I begged my mom for another box. Why? It was one of the only blue cereals around... Oh boy. And, yes, that box went stale too.

Jamie R. no offense but..... They were NOT shaped like fruity pebbles. I use to eat these all the time and loved them so much. They do not make any cereal that even come close to its flavor. I did so much research and taste testing and nothing came close to the old flavor I truly loved. Cap'N Crunch, Frankenberry, nor Fuity pebbles taste like Smurf Cereal. It did not have a chemical taste nor was it too sweet. This is more of today's cereal brands. hmmm. When researching why they stop selling. True answers were not really given. Have not heard back from Post on this either. However, from web rumors, they might have been discontinued due to mainly scandal about subliminal messages in the cartoon, complaints of sugar levels from activist groups, possible letters from parents complaining about blue-colored poo and all out nonsense. When Post substituted the blue the sales crash because the flavor was not so good as before. The crappy cereal on the shelves today have way more sugar, trash ingredients, cardboard like taste, cheap substitutes added to the recipe to increase profits, and way too many fortified vitamins and minerals (introduced to cereal in the 70s) Its odd how some reviews from other sites were written by people who were not even born during this era. Nor were they born when they were discontinued. Fishy! So if we want these BACK on shelves with the original ingredients don't be afraid if you see blue poop. I never saw that when I ate them but this ONE lady started a hell of a mess when her child supposedly had this following eating the cereal. Then as an opportunity for money, others lied and said the same garbage. Scandal. The majority of others stated that they never had this issue. Only a few that followed the first lady claimed this issue. So all and all, Smurf Cereal were taken off the market. I wish Post would put them BACK on the market. I'm sure if many people write them and ask for this Cereal. They will see an opportunity brewing. lol. But be ready for a few fools who will complain as before. This time, sales should make them fade in the wind. I'm ready to buy them by the cases. lol I am as thin now as I were then. Hope this helped

One morning I got up and went to the kitchen area and noticed a full bowl of this cereal sitting on the counter. I noticed that someone had put a layer of sugar on top of it. I made my way to the family room and asked whose bowl of smurf berry crunch that was in the kitchen and I was told it was my dads. I then asked why he didn't eat it and I was told that it was too sweet...too sweet! I lmao and said no wonder! that's like putting sugar on top of sugar! God Bless Him!
