In the 80's Banana Republic clothes were totally safari, like the description says. That's why it cracks me up that Banana Republic has gone so snooty and stylish these days. I never really shopped there so it's hard to know when exactly it went from selling stuff that Crocodile Hunter wears to business casual and dressy! haha

I loved Banana Republic, couldn't wait for the catalog to come in the post every month. I had this grey wool cape, called 'The Cape of Two Countries' I remember wearing it in winter and freezing my butt off. I loved their shops, all jungle like inside, with the jeep parked at the front of the store. Everything always had such interesting names. Why they had to stop and start selling posh crap is beyond me.

Banana Republic Safari Co. in the 70's and 80's had high quality design materials and clothes for men and women and college youth. What happened is that unfortunately the owners designers sold their brand to the Gap in late 80's and that ruined it's originality. The Gap morphed it into its product like image. What is amazing now in current 2015 is that many vintage BRSClothes are making a comeback on EBay! Wish the original owners would start the company again with such fine design clothes mimicking their 70/ 80s style.
