Description
Sex: Female
Type of clothing: Clothes
When it was popular: Mid To Late 80s
Description: These were blouses available in any colour - the brighter the better. They had sleeves which started at around the waist and were tapered at the forearms (resembling bat's wings). You also had to buy one long enough to put a belt around the waist and it usually came with a big bow or some costume jewelry.

Actually the cocoon jacket is different than the batwing. The batwing is cut like a regular jacket, except for the sleeves. The cocoon is cut to encircle you and cling to the body.

I remember batwing tops being really popular from, like, 1977 to 1979. I remember girls wearing v-neck batwing sweaters around '77 with peasant skirts and full boots or tight, "cigarette-leg" jeans in the winter. Shiny and all-over-sequinned batwing tops were popular in '78 and '79. Check out almost any video of Sister Sledge performing in that time period and you'll see them worn with tight, satin, stovepipe/cigarette-leg jeans and thin-strapped, high-heeled sandals, also metallic.

I still have a couple of these too. I really like them. One of them is a hoodie.
