Description: A one piece garment that was originally intended for ballet dancers but became popular to wear in gyms, especially for aerobics. Eventually they were also worn out as fashion with a skirt or pants. The leotard is basically a shirt/blouse type top attached to underpants-looking briefs..all of the same material, usually spandex was involved.

Leotards were awesome in the 80s...you could get them at any clothing, dept store. They were fun! And practical to wear as a top with pants or a skirt, cuz they stayed tucked in! I usually wore mine with contrasting colored tights. The only hassle was if ya needed to go to the bathroom, practically had to disrobe first!

I remember leotards so clearly. I had a white one with black pants go with it. It was pretty cool!

It was nice because back then I did dancing and acrobats so I had a bunch and eventually got to wear them to school. I had the same exact one in the posted picture too.

When did the thong leotard come into fashion? Didn't those leos put your undies up your rear to show it off more?

Thong leotards probably did come out in the late 80s, but werent really popular until the early 90s (for exercise wear mostly.) I never cared for thong leotards... the traditional look is way better
