Description: Ribbons were BIG whether they were worn in your hair or tied around your neck to compliment your button down shirt, plaid kilt, corduroy blazer combo. Grosgrain ribbons had a slightly ribbed texture and often had some sort of preppy design. Two popular designs of the early '80's were whales or alligators.

Love grosgain ribbon, belts, bags, trim, etc. Definitely the preppy style of the 80's but translates well now. You can find a lot of things with grosgain trim nowadays especially from Tommy Hilfiger. I've seen some from Land's End and L.L. Bean as well, and I think it's L.L. Bean who just put out a special limited edition embroidered belt selection (not grosgain but very similar in preppy 80's style).
