I had several pairs of them over the years and I wish I could still find shoes like them. Nothing else has ever looked as good on my legs and feet.

This photo looks like Candies from NOW purchased at Kohl's. Eww. The original Candies described above did not look like that at all.

Aaaaah, I loved the Candie's slides popular in the late 70's and thru the mid-80's. Just a wooden high heeled sandal with a leather vamp. Simple and so sexy. I wore a mauve-colored pair to my 8th grade prom.

The kind similar to the ones Olivia Newton John had on in the last 10 minutes of Grease is what comes to mind from reading the description. I also remember my first grade teacher having a pair of wooden wedges with 2 criss-crossed straps over the toe. I best remember the kid version. They had wooden 1" curved soles with a rubber bottom to prevent falling. They had 2 thin canvas ankle straps that criss-crossed in the back and buckled in the front. They made a nice clicking sound that drew its wearer lots of attention. The toe piece had "Candies" printed on it. This piece was so rigid, that unless you had narrow feet, it hurt to wear them with the ankle straps. Such was true for the girl down the street who had a navy blue pair. She wore them like flip flops and tied the straps down to try to prevent from walking on them. She was trying to look cute, but I know her feet hurt.

There is nothing sexier than a woman walking in a pair of Candie's slides. Hearing the sound of one heel clicking on the grouns while the other slaps against the bottom of her foot, while watching it all, is the ultimate turn on. Any way a woman wears her Candie's is sexy. She may wear them with a skirt and pantyhose, or she may wear them with a pair of tight jeans, showing off her sexy feet adorned with a hot red toenail polish, toe rings, and a sexy ankle bracelet. These are hottest shoes ever. Girls, if you still own the older style, wear them. If not, buy a pair of the newer Candie's slides, and check out the looks you'll get. Candie's...SWEET!

Where I lived (Dallas), Candie's shoes were popular for just one season: Fall of '78, when the slides hit big. I remember teachers and administrators warning students that the shoes were potentially dangerous since they had a high heel but no back strap to keep you from twisting your ankle. Girls wore them that year with the new cigarette-leg designer jeans rolled up to the ankle to show them off. On top, they'd wear and oversized blouse, men's shirt, or tunic puffing out over a rope-cord belt or a flexible metal belt. "Frizzed" hair was popular about the same time. Girls would sleep with their wet hair in braids and then undo them in the morning and blow dry them for a sort of pre-Raphaelite, disco look, accented with those random ponytails like Suzanne Sommers wore on "Three's Company."

When I was in high school in 1980, I was a little chunky and kind of shy. All the hot girls wore Candie's slides, and one day I decided to buy a pair. They were dark brown with a tan platform heel and looked great with jeans. The first day I wore them I got whistles from 3 different boys. I was so excited and surprised. That weekend I bought 3 more pairs (black, red and navy). I always had pretty feet and toes, but Candie's really made them look awesome. From then on, I spent my money on toenail polish, ankle bracelets, and more Candies's shoes. Flirting with the boys became fun, and it stil is! Candie's are making more styles, and they still make my feet look super hot. Best shoes ever!

This message is directed to Dean regarding the Fuschia/Black pumps. They look like they are made to look like fake patent leather. There's a triangle shape in a black velvet above the toe area and the heel is covered in the same black fabric. I am trying to find a picture online. I have a pair that I bought in high school, so was between 1984 - 1989. If anyone knows where to actually find pictures of Candie's vintage shoes, other than the slides, please email me at cindlac@msn.com, before I go crazy! Thank you!!

This style was called Screamers. I had to save up to buy them and it was a big deal! Mine were black patent with a yellow triangle.
