Description: Girls wove colorful skinny ribbons through metal barrettes, tied them off, and left long strands of ribbon hanging off the barrette before cutting the ribbon. You'd usually wear two barrettes like this, one on each side, and the ribbons often had the same color scheme as your outfit.

I LOVED these! Also, not mentioned, was that often beads were attached to the ends. My mom made me green and white ones to match my favourite outfit. I must have been in 1st or 2nd grade. I also had pink and blue store-bought ones. I still have them, too! A good friend of mine had a huge boxful her mom made for her.

Oh my God! I loved these and was hoping to find these on this website. I hope one day to make these for my future daughter. What memories these photos evoke.

We used to make these and my little sister wore hers so much that her hair broke off in the back where she clipped them.

I remember these were so popular! Shoot, if they're coming back in style, I'll wear 'em again, and I'm 36!
