When it was popular: Mid 80's
Description: Another MUST HAVE during the hip-hop explosion. Fat laces were oversize shoe laces, in assorted bright solid colors (even neon) that were worn in the suade Pumas and shell-toe Addias. Aside from the solid colors, they came in an argyle pattern that consisted of either white or black and any assorted color.

I had Suede Pumas! I also rocked the flor pink laces w/the checkered pattern on them. The corner store sold them for 50 cents a pair!

I have a pair of neon chartreuse laces in my roller skates. They "glow" under the blacklights at the roller rink.

I always wore my Adidas shell tops with my fat laces. My lace color had to match my twills, name plate belt was the finishing touch. That was me 1984-1986.
