These were popular in my school in 1982- when I was in the 5th grade! I had tons of them! They started to become popular again after the September 11, 2001 attacks, as people made them in red, white, and blue.

Much of my free time in the primary school years in the early 80's were spent creating these neato little things. I still have all of mine. Lots of fun memories creating and making these with my friends....

My favorite accessory in elementary school. It was the one thing this curly haired, glasses wearing nerd could rock out. My shoes were heavy with them.

When I was in grade school one could always tell how many friends another girl had by the number friendship pins on her tennis shoes. There was one girl that had so many of them she couldn't tie the laces, so they became slip-on shoes for her. It used to make me sad because I only two pins. They were fun to have though. I'd love to see these make a come-back!

My friends never made these, but when I was about 6 yrs. old and away on vacation (upstate NY) I met a girl from Michigan who made one for me. I attached it to my brand new in September new school year sneakers. It was really special, I loved it!

Oddly, there is a company now that is selling friendship pins. They are called Friendship Pinz, with a 'z'. I guess kids today are into them? I remember they were real popular when I was a teeny bop. :)

We were obsessed with these in 7th grade. I made oodles of them, and loved unique seed beads. We wore them pinned across the top laces of our shoes. Do kids these days have as many goofy fashion fads as we did back then?

My friends and I made these and put them on the exposed lace that went around our Topsiders! I remember pricking myself many a time crossing my feet at my ankles, good times!
