Can't recall where I first saw them, but knew I had to have some. They looked cool and were actually practical. I got some cheap ones at an amusement park, 1983 then lost them hiking (tumbled down a large hill) 1989 maybe? I have a son now with sensitive eyes, doesn't like most sunglasses because they don't allow complete coverage. Been looking for some glaciers - all I've found are high dollar ones for actual mountain climbers (yes, they still make them, but cheap ones are no where to be found).

Hey, they still make Glacier glasses. I still have my pair of Ray-Bans that I bought in the late 80's, in high school. You can get a cheap pair for about $45, a good pair for about $110 or really good will run about $350. Julbo seems to dominate the glacier glasses these days. Anyhow, I swear by them- the leather side shields keep extra light out, plus folks can't tell (from the side) what you're looking at. They're still cool!

Every once in a while you can find em on ebay. They have several newer more expensive versions now, but not quite as cool as the cheap ones from the 80's. I'm trying to find myself a white pair!

I had white glacier sunglasses and wore them on family vacations when I was 8-9. Too funny, I'd totally forgotten this fad but I recall the vacation photos with mine on.

Hell yeah - mine were 'Porsche' brand. Didn't wear them much, but they had a case and they were cool and they probably cost $3.99.

my dad lost his vintage glacier glasses here a few years ago and he still pines over them....they were red white and blue laminate frames with silver mirror lenses and white leather sides. If anyone has advice on where I could find these please let me know. atterburyii@hotmail.com
