was this just a Seattle are thing or more wide spread? I just did a "International News" clothing search string in Google and one of the results was a news article (circa 1990) it said it a Seattle based company. i grew up in Bremerton, which is near Seattle and saw these sweatshirts on EVERYONE.
He I grew up in St. Louis and these sweatshirts were popular there for a couple of years.
It was 1989/1990 when I had my sweatshirts and I had two of them and one was black and other hot pink colored. And I wondered what I ever done with them. I loved those sweatshirts and the 1980's also. Those were fun times. Maybe someone needs to see if one of the big clothing companies or distributors could come back with this particular sweatshirt as Nostalgia item of the 1980's.
We actually sold these as a fundraiser in high school, and one of my classmates just uploaded a video of the commercial reel we made. Check it out here:

I was able to find an International News tshirt on eBay a few years ago. It's a dark salmon/red with big black lettering. I did hang onto 2 pairs of News pants - one is blue & white striped, the other is a red tartan plaid. They're both capri style. Man oh man, did we (my best friend and I) love to wear those with our PrepWave outfits! I wonder if I have any pictures? I'll check...
International News is alive and well. Their offices are located about 2 blocks from mine, in Kent, WA. Don't know if they still offer the Intl News brand or not. Looks like they produce some of todays more popular brands; such as Alphanumeric and Mecca. Google Shah Safari (parent company) and you'll find links to their website.
The only cloths I have left hanging in my closet now is a trench coat in black silk. It was my most favorite store.

Mark Paul Gosselaar can be seen wearing an International News shirt in Saved by the Bell season 2 episode 3 "Save the Max".
Had an international news shirt; basically a white long sleeve dress shirt with an elongated back shirt tail down to the back of my knees. NEWS printed on the front and International News on the shirt tail. SO AWESOME!!!
