Description
Sex: M/F
Type of clothing: Shoes
When it was popular: Early 80's-1984
Description: Often gray, made out of thin, supple leather with a very small, thin wooden heel. About 4 lace holes, with thin laces, and one seam running across the top to the side of the shoe. Coolest ones were usually made by Capezio, which was a major provider of lots of the 80's leotard, dance/health club wear. Jazz shoes were often coupled with Girbaud baggie pants.

I am seeing replicas of the jazz shoe in the shoe stores that cater to teens and young adults, currently. When I mentioned to the late teenage salesperson, "These are like Capezio's jazz shoes...from the 80's...ever heard of them?...never mind" she looked at me like I had two heads. I guess that are called something else these days.

These were huge in the very early 80s for both men and women. We called them jazz oxfords where I lived. They were liked partly because they were sort of the opposite of the big platform soles and thick heels of the too-recent 70s. Everyone was anti-70s at that time.

These were the BEST, COOLEST, shoes for a man during the wonderful early 1980's! These shoes were simple, stylish, and went with EVERYTHING .......Especially jeans! I miss the innocence and simplicity of these times. They were happy and joyous times!
