Description: L.A Gear hi-tops called BRATS had huge tounges that stuck out. You would pull the tounges out and un do the lacing a bit and tie it very low. So most of the tounge could be seen. Robert Smith of the cure had this look.

What happen to the old style LA gear
That style came in long before '87. I wore LA Gear BRATS in high school 83-85 sometimes with regular laces because I would pull the original lacy ones out or sometimes I would have both lacy and regular laces twisted in a cord fashion, and definitely the looser the better with the tongue out!
i had some the u could pump u from the tongue to create the perfect fit,i drove my mum mad for some and the pump broke in 1 shoe after about three months and she went mad lol
