I never heard the term Petries for these before. Those flouncy, Norma Kamali-style, tiered miniskirts of the early 80s were called rah-rah skirts in the UK. Where I lived in the US, they were just called miniskirts. But at the end of the 70s and early 80s, my friends and I called early 60s-style narrow women's pants, Laura Petries, after Mary Tyler Moore's character on the 1960s US sitcom, "The Dick Van Dyke Show." Was Petries an actual brand name?
