Description
Sex: female
Type of clothing: shoes
When it was popular: '80s
Description: Clear shoes that little girls wore. Came mostly in clear or pink, and, if you were lucky, sparkly. Usually worn with socks that had beads at the tops so when you folded them it would produce a jingle-bead effect. All the rage in pre-k, but everyone soon caught on.

I had a red pair of red jelly shoes but I didn't have the right shaped foot to wear them and I ended up with blisters on my feet that were so bad that I had to take them off. One of the hazzards of wearing these types of shoes with flat feet and no socks.

I loved these shoes when I was young. It was after the 80's in like mid 90's when they made a comeback.

I really don't know one girl who didn't have these when we were growing up! They rocked. Infact, I bought some for my one year old...

I would always have dirty spots all over my feet from the little slats in the shoes when I would take mine off. I would also always get gravel stuck in the heals.

I loved my jellys. I had pink sparkly ones. In my school you weren't cool if you didn't have a pair of jellies of some kind.

Ok, I had these shoes and they made my feet sweat SO BAD and they hurt! What was the point, really? They were sweaty, painful, and not easy to walk in at all. NO TO JELLIES!

Ugh! These hurt sooo bad! But, they were so cute! No pain, no gain! I bought a pair of clear/blue ones last year for old times sake at Urban Outfitters. And, guess what?! They still hurt!! lol

Yes, they did hurt, but everyone had a pair. So, if they did, you had to have some, too! I remember having blue and purple ones. They've made somewhat of a comeback. I've seen them in Claire's and similar stores.

My cousins and I all had jelly shoes and purses. We wore our jellies for Easter one year. They were pretty but our feet were filthy and blistered by the end of the day.

I absolutely loved Jelly shoes. I remember the first time a few rocks got stuck in the heel...they sounded like my mom's heels as I walked across her tile floor. From then on I purposely stuck rocks in the heels. They made me feel so grown up. I saw a pair in Ross the other day and had to get some. Awesome!!!

i remember these shoes having little holes on the hell. rocks and other debris would get stuck in these holes, and i was obsessed with picking them off. i also remember blisters and sweaty feet. good times!

I love jellies! I had the original jellies from the 80s and still have a few pairs. I never had blisters, but I had sun marks on my feet from the cut out designs! Fun! Jellies are the bomb! Manufacturers need to make larger sizes though. There are new styles out like the Melissa Neon Doc Dog jelly pump, and the pointed toe glam flat. Quite cute and the main Company is Green! They recycle 99.9% of the material used.

I had a clearish white pair with pointy toes. they gave me such bad blisters but I wore them anyway. I still have a scar on each foot from them.

i had a pair when i was little, in the mid-90s. i don't remember blisters but i do remember the dirt prints.

Mine were clear, with black lace inside them. They felt OK the first hour or so, but they made your feet sweat like crazy plus they pinched, so I didn't wear them too often!
Charmaine - May 04, 2008 - Report this comment
I had a few pairs of these too! They do make your feet sweat and hurt but after a long day and you settle it wasn't nothing like cleaning the dirt out the bottom sole but also looking at the marks made from the wear. I am scouting for a few pairs for my 3 yr old to wear this summer with the thin socks. This is about the closest to sandles in the summer while attending the daycare. We all know the shoe has to be a closed one.

Always wore jellies in the summer in England as a kid but I really found the best use for them in my twenties. I had a clear white pair and wore them with jeans or tight pants to go clubbing and they are the absolute best shoes for dancing in, you can spin and slide, even on a carpeted floor!

I loved these when I was little! My sister and I had several pairs of the slip ons in assorted colors. I just found some in Target, got the clear and the blue ones. My husband says I look 10 in them... oh well; but I got them for sooo cheap and I couldn't resist buying, they bring back so many memories. I won't where them everywhere, but I'm sure I'll get my money's worth out of them - that won't take too long.

I love them. They make me feel young again. I went out and bought every color so what if I am 45. I love that they have them again. I will stock up on them.

i loved mine too. mine were red slip ons. my sister had pink ones with the strap and buckle like the picture above. i know that i had a few different pairs growing up, but the red ones are the only ones i remember wearing. and yeah they could not be worn for long distances or for long periods of time because once your feet would start to sweat, your feet would slide around in them and your toes would squish towards the tip of the shoes. ouch!!!
