Description
Sex: female
Type of clothing: shoes
When it was popular: '80s
Description: Clear shoes that little girls wore. Came mostly in clear or pink, and, if you were lucky, sparkly. Usually worn with socks that had beads at the tops so when you folded them it would produce a jingle-bead effect. All the rage in pre-k, but everyone soon caught on.

I had a red pair of red jelly shoes but I didn't have the right shaped foot to wear them and I ended up with blisters on my feet that were so bad that I had to take them off. One of the hazzards of wearing these types of shoes with flat feet and no socks.
Gel - July 09, 2007 - Report this comment

I loved my pink jelly shoes with the matching purse.
Audrey - August 24, 2007 - Report this comment
I would always have dirty spots all over my feet from the little slats in the shoes when I would take mine off. I would also always get gravel stuck in the heals.
Ella - August 28, 2007 - Report this comment

I loved my jellys. I had pink sparkly ones. In my school you weren't cool if you didn't have a pair of jellies of some kind.

Ok, I had these shoes and they made my feet sweat SO BAD and they hurt! What was the point, really? They were sweaty, painful, and not easy to walk in at all. NO TO JELLIES!
billie - December 04, 2007 - Report this comment

Heather - December 20, 2007 - Report this comment
Ugh! These hurt sooo bad! But, they were so cute! No pain, no gain! I bought a pair of clear/blue ones last year for old times sake at Urban Outfitters. And, guess what?! They still hurt!! lol
Christy51274 - January 04, 2008 - Report this comment
Yes, they did hurt, but everyone had a pair. So, if they did, you had to have some, too! I remember having blue and purple ones. They've made somewhat of a comeback. I've seen them in Claire's and similar stores.
Eugol Dlareg - January 04, 2008 - Report this comment

My sister had a pair.We went to visit our grandmother in arizona in the summer. After walking outside in 110 degree heat , the bottoms of the jellies started to melt (no s**T).

Laney - February 19, 2008 - Report this comment
My cousins and I all had jelly shoes and purses. We wore our jellies for Easter one year. They were pretty but our feet were filthy and blistered by the end of the day.
Dottie - February 20, 2008 - Report this comment
I absolutely loved Jelly shoes. I remember the first time a few rocks got stuck in the heel...they sounded like my mom's heels as I walked across her tile floor. From then on I purposely stuck rocks in the heels. They made me feel so grown up. I saw a pair in Ross the other day and had to get some. Awesome!!!
Amber - February 25, 2008 - Report this comment
I love love love Jellys.Of course they left blisters and Dottie I too loved to get rocks stuck in them!
Tasha - March 01, 2008 - Report this comment
Me my cousin and my sister had a pair alike. They had heels on them and we wore them with out blue jean skorts. We thought we were grown!! Lol!!
happy girl - March 03, 2008 - Report this comment
i remember these shoes having little holes on the hell. rocks and other debris would get stuck in these holes, and i was obsessed with picking them off. i also remember blisters and sweaty feet. good times!
Ross - March 05, 2008 - Report this comment
I love jellies! I had the original jellies from the 80s and still have a few pairs. I never had blisters, but I had sun marks on my feet from the cut out designs! Fun! Jellies are the bomb! Manufacturers need to make larger sizes though. There are new styles out like the Melissa Neon Doc Dog jelly pump, and the pointed toe glam flat. Quite cute and the main Company is Green! They recycle 99.9% of the material used.

I had a clearish white pair with pointy toes. they gave me such bad blisters but I wore them anyway. I still have a scar on each foot from them.

i had a pair when i was little, in the mid-90s. i don't remember blisters but i do remember the dirt prints.
Dorene - April 24, 2008 - Report this comment
Mine were clear, with black lace inside them. They felt OK the first hour or so, but they made your feet sweat like crazy plus they pinched, so I didn't wear them too often!
Charmaine - May 03, 2008 - Report this comment
I had a few pairs of these too! They do make your feet sweat and hurt but after a long day and you settle it wasn't nothing like cleaning the dirt out the bottom sole but also looking at the marks made from the wear. I am scouting for a few pairs for my 3 yr old to wear this summer with the thin socks. This is about the closest to sandles in the summer while attending the daycare. We all know the shoe has to be a closed one.
Kat - May 22, 2008 - Report this comment
Always wore jellies in the summer in England as a kid but I really found the best use for them in my twenties. I had a clear white pair and wore them with jeans or tight pants to go clubbing and they are the absolute best shoes for dancing in, you can spin and slide, even on a carpeted floor!
tera - June 16, 2008 - Report this comment
my mom bought me when i was 5 these clear glitter jellies with the teletubbes on them!
Ash - June 19, 2008 - Report this comment
I loved these when I was little! My sister and I had several pairs of the slip ons in assorted colors. I just found some in Target, got the clear and the blue ones. My husband says I look 10 in them... oh well; but I got them for sooo cheap and I couldn't resist buying, they bring back so many memories. I won't where them everywhere, but I'm sure I'll get my money's worth out of them - that won't take too long.
rose - June 28, 2008 - Report this comment
I love them. They make me feel young again. I went out and bought every color so what if I am 45. I love that they have them again. I will stock up on them.
margie - June 30, 2008 - Report this comment
i loved mine too. mine were red slip ons. my sister had pink ones with the strap and buckle like the picture above. i know that i had a few different pairs growing up, but the red ones are the only ones i remember wearing. and yeah they could not be worn for long distances or for long periods of time because once your feet would start to sweat, your feet would slide around in them and your toes would squish towards the tip of the shoes. ouch!!!
brightbite - July 15, 2008 - Report this comment
I had a pair of red jelly sandals, with little specks of silver glitter. They had Cookie Monster on the side. They were amazing, and I even loved the rubber smell, but then I grew out of them.

I bought a pair on the sly b/c my mom said they looked like "poor people's shoes" (and we were poor, so evidently this was a sore subject). She flipped, but I couldn't return them b/c they made your feet sweat like crazy!

I have a pair of the Mouse kind of Jelly Shoes. The trans-greenish kind and they're comfortable on my feet. But i rememeber my cousin had ruined them with their little prank...but i had a second pair of them just in case something happened. And alot of girls at my school has some Jellies too.

I have a pink pair but If I wear them one of tmy heels would get a blister and it would hurt if I kept weraing them.
Anon - December 01, 2008 - Report this comment
Even though I was a nerdy outcast, I had a couple of pairs of jellies (one pink and one white). I grew up in So. Cal., so we didn't wear socks with ours and your feet started to hurt after awhile, but such is the price of high fashion! I also had a few jelly bags (remember those?) throughout one or two school years. After a few months, the handles or the bag would break from the weight of the books and binder, but they must have been cheap, b/c my mom replaced them w/o complaint.

I had two pairs in high heels none the less! I would be wearing them to top off my "Madonna" look and get stuck in the football field during band practice. Gotta luv the 80s!

I wore these jelly shoes in the very early 90's as a little kid and loved them. They were banned at my elementary school because teachers didn't think they were safe and we couldn't run well in them for gym. I still wore them at home. I had every color and glittery ones too. I remember my favorite were an orangy pink color and SCENTED like peaches. The best! haha

I thought these were so cute, but not the most comfortable shoes. The kind like the picture above tore up very easily. They came out with one that had a windowpane pattern that was more durable. I had a pair in burgundy. For children, I don't think these ever went out of style!

I use to have the soild clear jelly's that had lace glued inside them. Perhaps that's why today i can not wear any shoes longer than a hour before my feet start to really hurt. All those years of wearing jelly's..

Memories!! I had a pair of clear purple sandals with a strap in 1990/1991 (I was six) which I always had to wear with socks, so I don't remember sweating nor blisters! My jellies also had some colorful applications on them, I think it was cartoon character themed (but I didn't know the cartoon). Awww :D

I had a white pair that I bought at Jefferson Ward when I was 7. They cut into my feet. Ouch! So for some reason I thought wearing them in pool would help. Nope. Hated them.

Man, these made your feet hurt a lot! Your feet would sweat, and that would make them rub the soles of your feet raw. And they would always rub big, painful sores on the backs and sides of my ankles. But they were so cute I wore them, anyway. Kinda like high heels... LOL

I had the clear ones with lace, too - and I used to like to wear them with colored tights to show off the white lace. Also had strappy pink ones; don't remember getting blisters, which is surprising because I get blisters so easily - but the rocks! The tan lines! The dirt! Def remember all of that.
