they were mainly made by rag city blues or fredericks of hollywood.

These jeans were hugely popular in the 80's and I had several pairs. They were made by Rag City Blues and I wore them extremely tight. Rag City Blues is making them again and I bought many more. Warning! Do not buy cheap knock-offs as I did once before as the cheap zipper on them sprung open in public! This has never happened with Rag City Blues jeans.

I agree with Jeans Lover. These jeans were extremely popular and were meant to be worn very tight. Be sure to take note of the warning; buy only Rag City Blues jeans if you want this type of jean. When these were in style in the 80's I bought a cheaper, look alike pair. They were ultra tight and fit good. I got plenty of looks from these jeans. I also got plenty more looks when, while standing at the counter in a store to pay, the damnned zipper sprung open, unzipping all the way down and halfway up the back. I was exposed from my belly button on down and could not get them zipped back up. I was mortified and ran to the changing room to zip up. I then promptly bought the "original jeans" and never had an episode like this again. That was then, recently I bought more of these jeans, wear them ultra skin tight (my husband likes this and so do I), and sometimes go panty-less (likes that too!). No popping zippers! Buy only the original from their on-line store!

I read both comments about the quick zip or, as they were also called, zip-around jeans. My wife recently purchased several pairs of these from Rag City Blues and she loves them. Actually, she seen them and I bought them for her. She wears them skin tight, like they shoud be, and has never had any zipper failures. However, I can remember when they were first popular in the 80's and were a bit pricey. So, some girls opted to buy the cheaper look-alikes. One woman that worked with me did so; bought cheaper ones, wore them tight and payed the price when the zipper popped open and the jeans split in two! Talk about embarrassment. Lucky for her she had a thong on!

How do you go to the bathroom with those?
TB - August 29, 2011 - Report this comment
Go to the bathroom? Well, if they are not too tight then that would not be a problem. Just unzip them and go. If worn skin tight like I do, needing to lay down to zip them, then make sure you go before going out. Just hope you don't need to go while out or else you will be left struggling with the zipper in the bathroom.

Were these also mid-'70s to early '80s? I don't think anyone my age wore them (b. 1970), they were more for the older girls in the early '80s. I think my babysitter had a pair of these when I was 9 or 10.

I don't believe they were mid 70's. Maybe late 70's, but definitely 80's. I live on the East Coast and have never seen many women wearing them, just a few in the 80's and none now. I love them and wear mine all the time.

LOL! I had several pairs of Rag City ones. I loved them! BUT while at Disneyland on one of the rides the seat belt hooked onto the zipper at the very first turn, that was the ride from hell! I could feel at every bump and turn more and more wind. When the ride was finished and everyone was stopped I stayed seated, I said my zipper broke, the attendant brought me a napkin to cover up with, I laughed and explained, he got me his coat and let me go into a storage closet to fix them.

Loved, these jeans! Zip arounds, tie ups, half zip had them all! I'm surprised I don't have a scar under my bellybutton from these! Was telling some friends from work about these, I live in MI now, they never heard of them! Guess it was only a Cally thing?

I remember these and my faith in humanity was crushed by them. My friends older sister wore the very cheapest version of these but she had no mortifying stories. The zipper on hers was completely FAKE! The pants were elastic and need not be unzipped at all. My pubecent fantasies withered and died and the universe was a chilly empty place from then on. They were probably a lot more comfortable to wear.

I had a pair as well but mine didn't have that seam around the mid section that rag city blues does. I remember the makers label was "London" or Harry London Jean" I rocked those jeans. We called them drive-in pants.

I've just bought a pair, sadly too small for my girlfriend but too nice to leave in a drawer. Will keep looking though!

These jeans were awesome, and I still do have a pair of Rag City Blues. However, they were not made to ride horses in because of the zipper. A bit uncomfortable in that situation.
