I always thought this was such a dumb hair style! I actually saw a little boy last year w/ a rat tail. Why would parents do that to a kid?! lol

Ha! Every boy I knew had a rat tail! They'd tie it with those tiny dental elastics for braces.

There are a couple of little boys that ride my bus that have these. My ex had one.

This was extremely popular in the early to mid-80s, for men and women. We called them just "tails" or "rat tails." "Duck tails" refers to a 1950s style where men's greased hair was brushed back from both sides to meet in the back for a duck's arse effect. The 80s tails were created by letting the center-bottom of back of the hair grow long, long, long from one point, where the back of the hairline peaks on most people. The rest of the hair was usually cut short, sometimes even shaven off so that no hair was left but the "tail." Usually, though, people with tails just had a standard, 80s, long-on-top, short-underneath cut with a tail at the back. I remember people who had them would twist and twirl them in their fingers absent-mindedly while they were sitting.

I do not believe you have tourettes. Who do you think you are making fun of people with this serious, debilitating, and embarrassing condtion? My neice has tourettes and it's not funny. Then you seemed like you were trying to get attention by saying "I plan to whip myself for what I've done". In all sincerety, I think you need some friends, and perhaps some help. Try doing things you like to do to use your time, i.e. reading, exercising, watching movies, writing, drawing, singing, school, etc.

I currently have a tail. Been growing it for a year or so. I just recently dyed it blonde to contrast againist my dark hair. I originally had one back in the late 80's-early 90's, and decided that I am not going to follow the "Norm" and will be different, So I let it grow again/ it's about down between my shoulders now and I plan to let it grow to my belt line. When I grew a goatee, years ago, I was told nobody wears goatee's then pretty soon, everyone had one, so I shaved mine off. If tails were to come back into popularity, I would probably cut it off.
