I ahd one of these-loved it! It was black polyester made to look like leather with a zipper that went diagonally across the front.

Popular where I lived 1979-80 and associated with the "new wave/postpunk" crowd. Often worn with buttons/badges pinned on and maybe an early 60s skinny black ties loosely knotted on top of it for that powerpop look. Wearing this in Dallas would guarantee that you would get cowboys or jocks shouting "Devo!" or "punk rocker!" at you and wanting to beat you up.

I have a black shirt with the diagonal zipper across the front that is long-sleeved. I've had it since the early 80s--81 or 82, I think. I still wear it now and then.
