That was such the preppy thing to do. I think that started in 83ish? Peaked when, maybe 85? We did that with our oxford shirts, polo shirts, and jean jackets.

LOL this was back in style in 2006/early 2007 - then it went away....trends go away like flies nowadays.

This was introduced as a sort of causual trend by designer around 1977 on men's jackets and shirts, about the same time casual, pushed-up sleeves were shown. Then in the early 80s, it got generally popular, for knit polo shirts especially. In the early 80s, I think it was supposed to evoke a for a sort of 1950s, James Dean vibe, but it never quite looked like that.
