Description
Sex: Female
Type of clothing: MULTIPLES
When it was popular: 1985-1987
Description: I'm still in awe of how they had entire STORES of nothing but MULTIPLES! Basically there are tons of differents "pieces" that can all be combined with pretty much any other "Multiple" in existence. All were some sort of thin, stretchy cotton/? blend and weren't exactly full of shape... The classic multiple look would be the skirt or pant with a tunic top accessoried with the "everything" tube thing that was used as the belt (among 15 other ideas that they had for it...) They weren't just popular among a certain age either - Grandmothers, Mothers, & Daughters all had it on...

YES! I had forgotten about multiples! I had the coolest tunic shirt with the longest sleeves EVER! I guess you could use it as a belt too by just wrapping & wrapping the sleeves or something! And matching "parachute pants" that were full at the top, but tapered at the ankle so they ruched up a LOT. Kewl!

Oh My GOD! My friends and I still laugh about this "clothing of the future." It was a skirt, sash, tube top, belt, turban...sky's the limit! I remember these being sold at Daytons, but Target had their own brand called "Units."

I'm sitting here with my Mom, Sister, Sister-in-law and Mother-in-law and we are laughing hysterically at all these comments. We started talking about how fashion keeps evolving through the same cycle. We loved those multiples. And I love the fact that there is a website where people are even talking them. Yesterday, I actually saw a lady wearing the tube thing as part of her shirt. I would love for multiples to come back in style. Super comfortable, easy to wash, no ironing. What could be better!

I actually SOLD Multiples through home parties. They were beyond comfortable. I loved the giant tube that I folded in half and wore as a mini-skirt with the shirt with the REALLY long sleeves and you twisted them a million times to make them shorter. Then you wore the small tube as a contrasting belt. The best!!

I used to love Multiples! I remember going to the Multiples Factory Outlet in Kittery, ME to purchase them! I even had a Multiples canvas tote bag that was reversible-one side was black and the other was lime green. I wore it out from use! My mom STILL wears my old gray Multiples short-sleeve 80s tunic as a beach coverup!

I have several pieces left and wish I could buy some more. I wore them at 5ft 4in, my daughter was 5ft 9in and she wore them and when my 5ft 2in daughter was pregnant, she wore them. If anyone knows where I can get more, please let me know!!

hahaha - this is hilarious - ladies, these outfits were not inexpensive. If I recall correctly, the tunic, tube thingy, and leggings would set you back at least $100 for the outfit, right? As such, I could never afford it! Aww... only the cool girls in class got to come to school wearing their Multiples. LOL. Too funny!

OMG, I also have a few pieces of Multiples. Will not part with the grey, red & white tops. The few pants finally gave up the ghost. My daughter-in-law & I were the only cool "girls" in the family then who wore them. She turned me on to Multiples. I went to the outlet place almost every week to co ordinate mine. I still wear those plastic circles with the bar in the middle to scrunch up blouses, ha ha. So fun!Multiples come back. I am 75 but I'd wear them again!!
