I got a typical plastic Swatch in 1989 when I was 16. Mine had a plain black band. I always wore my Swatch with the buckle on the top of my wrist. I must have thought that was so cool wearing it like that. When I was 17 the local newspaper did an article about my extensive involvement in the community (I always cared very much about helping those in need), and there was a picture in the paper of me wearing my Swatch that way. Recently we came across that article and my girlfriend noticed that and said she used to wear hers that way too. I liked wearing my Swatch so much I even wore it during a few games when I was on my high school baseball team.

I got a Swatch in 1983 when I went to Germany with my parents. We took a trip to Switzerland because my mom wanted a nice watch. The showed us the Swatch. It was intended to be a disposable watch. The guys said just throw it away when the battery dies. We paid the equivalent of $8.00 at the time. I wore the hell out of it until it got shattered one day in the football locker room.

I used to always wear mine with the buckle on the top of my wrist too. The band was grey with a yellow buckle. I remember in 1989 at my high school graduation party all my relatives were teasing me and asking me why I wear it like that, I was like because I'm cool. As a graduation gift my 7 year old neice got me that exact same Swatch that I had...I felt so bad for her when she seen my Swatch was the same one she got for me. I gave the second one to my girlfriend and we wore matching Swatches.

I wore two or three at a time. I had the blue one that smelled like mint and the pink one that smelled like strawberries...lol ;)

I had 5 Swatch watches. I would wear two or three at a time. I thought I was sooo cool. I loved the swatch watches that came out with the BIG huge face!

As mentioned in another similar thread, I am also a Swatch collector. I love Swatch watches and continue to buy new ones! This past Fall I discovered a Swatch store in an outdoor mall at Oakbrook Terrace, IL and I was in heaven...spent most of my shopping budget there!

That's crazy!! I live in Chicagoland, and Im on my way up to Oakbrook. I finally got a swatch in elementary school, and finally felt like a member of the "in" crowd!! Mine had a black band with a shiny metallic face with no numbers and glow in the dark hands!!
Jenny - April 05, 2009 - Report this comment
I still have the one in the picture! The one on the far right...the band is darker blue, though.

I got one of these for Christmas in 8th grade... it was pink and was scented like strawberry, and I had a neon pink swatch guard( the little rubber thingy that strapped across the top of the glass) still have it to this day--lost its smell though.

Hello, I'm 16 and I wear a Swatch. Its an old Swatch that my girlfriend came across and gave to me. I wear it with the buckle on the top of my wrist too, I guess I just like to wear stuff backwards.

I have a 1985 Black Magic Swatch. It's pretty basic, but goes with everything. Lisa and Jenny, you are remembering the 'Raspberry' Swatch, also from '85.

I have the turquoise see-thru Swatch with a clear band, and the one with the neon green ring around the face, and the second hand shaped like a lightning bolt. I bought them new in 1984 when they first came out. They work fine, but need new batteries. They live in my jewelry box for the time being.

I had like 15 of these including one of the Limelight editions. So cool at the time! Still sort of cool now.
Jesse - April 07, 2010 - Report this comment
I had one of these and like many other people also wore it with the buckle on the top of my wrist.

I got a Swatch for a Christmas present when I was 16 in 1989. I put it on buckle on top that day and wore it like that for a few years.

I've recently redeveloped my passion for Swatch Watches. I've loved them since their first arrival. I have recently begun collecting them. The rare ones I keep for my collection, some I resale on ebay, but none the less, they still seem to be a huge hit even today. I wear my swatch daily :)

Anyone remember the giant Swatches that you could hang on the wall like a clock?
Michelle - August 25, 2010 - Report this comment
Swatch was the watch to have in the 80's. I had several including a couple scented ones and this expensive "diving watch". I was so bummed with the diving one because the battery went it couldnt be changed like a normal one due to it being made to withstand pressure of diving/water. I really liked that watch. I remember going to King of Prussia mall near my house and getting that watch in their store. The scented one's smell faded pretty fast so I was bummed about that too and I remember the band discoloring just as fast! :(

After I lost my first Swatch I got another Swatch for a 16th birthday present from my grandma. It was the coolest gift, I couldn't be without a Swatch. And I ALWAYS wore mine buckle on top too.

I had a Swatch, it was all black with a white Swatchguard (the "Guard Too"). I wore it throughout all of high school. I always wore it the regular way (face on top of wrist), I much preferred it the regular way, and it was just as cool that way.

I found one at a local flae market about a month ago in near perfect condition. The lady sold it to me for 10 cents. To see a picture of it as well as a whole bunch of my other eighties items at my blog. retrocloset.blogspot.com

I had two of them. Need to find them as they would be fun to wear!

I started wearing my Technosphere Swatch again. Everyone at work asked me where I got it, and I told them how old it was. It's in perfect condition, but I replaced the clear band with a black one shortly after I bought it. It has both the Swatchguard and Swatchguard 2 on it, both in blue. My Turquoise Bay will be worn next week.

I had one in '84. I remember that the face had three different layers that would move in opposing directions. And the second hand looked like a crinkle cut french fry.
Brett - March 16, 2012 - Report this comment
I bought a Techno Sphere Swatch (w/ the green neon ring around the face) when I was in the 8th grade in Ohio back in 1986. I remember I loved that thing. I think I became too cool for it when i got in high school so I sold it to my brother. He has no idea what happened to it. I've recently become nostalgic and am looking to replace it via Ebay.
Jan Griffiths - June 05, 2012 - Report this comment
Brett, there are a few Technosphere Swatches right now on Ebay, including an automatic one. One of them has a price tag of $595.00 on a buy-it-now auction. That's crazy!!

My brother, who was in college, happened to be home for the summer. He had a black Swatch, which I happened to borrow and not return...oops.

I wore a Swatch Turquoise Bay, it had a bluish face and a gray band with a yellow buckle. I always wore it with the buckle side on top of my wrist. I wore it to my prom and when getting a picture taken the photographer asked me to lower my sleeve so the plastic watch isn't showing with my tux, I said I pulled up the sleeve so it shows since its cool, and I told him it was cool to wear it buckle on top. I wish I still had that Swatch, those are pretty valuable on e-bay.,

My first proper watch was a swatch watch that I got from my mother when I was 9 years old. I still have it, but the strap is broken.
Jan Griffiths - July 08, 2013 - Report this comment
Jadedoz, you can get any type of band on eBay, there's tons of them on there. Chad, do you still have your Turquoise Bay? I still have mine, and still love it. I took great care of mine through the years, and neither it nor my Technosphere have the yellowing that occurs with age. Normally, I wear my Dad's Omega watch for everyday.

@Jan Griffiths- The one with the neon green circle and lightning bolt second hand- That was my 1st one! I'll buy yours. Name a price!
J - January 25, 2014 - Report this comment
Sorry David. That Swatch I got a great deal on, and it's now retired. My old one was ripped off of my wrist by my ex when I was leaving him. I just got it a few weeks ago. I managed to save the green ring, the pink hour hand, and the lightning bolt minute hand, which is now part of a Flumotions Swatch Irony automatic conversion which I had made for me. Try Ebay; there are always a few for sale there. That model is called Technosphere.

So many different patterns and colors on these plastic on rubber band watches. Cheap and always got a new one every month.

I used to get a couple of new ones every other payday when I worked for Motorola. Still wearing my Flumotions Irony automatic conversion I had made for me in 2013. All my plastic ones are retired, and are kept in our safe.
