When did this happen in the 80's? I wore one to school around 85', and my friends made fun of me.

Marly: I just read in an article from a 1985 Ladies' Home Journal that tie-dye socks were in fashion in a school in Orinda, CA.

Tie-dye revival at the end of the 80s, like '87 and '88 into the early 90s. Typically in brighter and less earthy colors than in the 60s, often with words and figures printed on top of it. Came in at about the same time as a sort of hippie revival was getting a bit of mainstream attention with bands like New Bohemians, Spin Doctors, Blind Melon, Phish, etc. Also at about the time conscious rap was getting big.

I once wore a pair of tie-dyed cotton overalls into my 7th grade lunchroom, sparking an hour of merciless taunting, teasing and torment directed at yours truly (complete with projectile garbage aimed at my head). I remember the date, October 19, 1992.
