I had three pair, loved them! You were supposed to wear them with a double long belt wrapped between your legs, then around the waist, then fastened.

I had a pair of black parachute pants and remember wearing them to a Duran Duran concert in 1984. Totally loved those pants although they weren't the warmest pants I owned. Wish they still sold them. I would probably buy a pair.

I had finally earned enough babysitting money to purchase my beloved olive green parachute pants. The first night I wore them to the movie "Endless Love" and sat in gum-forever ruined...so bunk.

I loved me some parachute pants. I had a pink pair with a gray and pink top with zippers down the side that when unzipped was parachute material inside. I loved that outfit.

OMG, remember the swish swish swish sound they made as you walked? I was so happy when I got my dark silver pair. I wore them with my pink and purple Vans and played hackie sack at school. Those were the days LOL!!

My sister made me wear them, her friends said I looked "cute" in them. Didn't MJ make these pants popular?

Man, if the 80's are remembered for anything it'll be Teen Angst films and parachute pants! LOL. I swear that at one point I had a pair for every day of the week. Black, red, gray, blue, green, grey pinstriped ones with a zipper down the front of each leg. As I recall Parachute Pants were were one exteeeeeeeemly short lived fashion fad.

My mom REFUSED to buy me a pair, but I saved up enough to get them. They were black and I wore them with a studded belt wrapped twice around my waist. After the movie "Breakin'" came out, I would wear them with about a million bandannas wrapped around my wrists - so awful! I cringe just thinking about it...

OMG! I remember these pants! Love and hate is all i say! they were comfortable yet cold at night. but the boyfriend loved them! I don't think I have ever been felt up so again! foreplay was longer as the pants stayed on longer! what is it with nylon and men?
Sandra f - May 21, 2009 - Report this comment
yup i remember those like yesterday. I had several pairs and thats all i wore all through my grade 11 days. I didn't like wearing underwear with them cause I wore them tight and I couldn't stand panty lines! it was great having all the zipper pockets for bus fare and lunch money and all the phone numbers I got wearing them sporting a great 80's camel!
sdianah - May 30, 2009 - Report this comment
I never owned a pair of these, but many of the guys had them. They worked better on skinny people because they did make the sounds when the legs rubbed together. I remember a guy named Matt had a pair of these in grey and wore them with a burgundy Members Only jacket with a t-shirt.

Glad to see I wasn't the only! I loved the way they felt on the body with no underwear on under. especialy when I waxed smooth. what a look and feeling! I miss the old days! LMAO

I wore my black pair until I burst the seams :( I remember being so sad because I couldn't repair them due to the type of material it was. The tear just kept unravelling when I tried to sew it, but yeh, like some of ya'll, I would definately buy a pair if they made them again, but it would have to be a true reproduction, not one with current influences. They would have to have the rib crushing high waist! lol

Mine were turquoise. I would wear them while rollerskating in my matching turquoise half shirt. If you could rollerskate just right you could get the swishing sound to go right along with the beat of the music.

At the very end of the 70s and early 80s, these were considered "punk" or "new wave" where I lived and were worn with wraparound sunglasses, short-cropped hair, sleeveless t-shirts, skinny black ties, and loads of band buttons/badges. Popular labels were Boy of London and Commander Salamander, but cheaper versions were sold at chains like Chess King in malls.

I still have 4 pairs--black, blue, Black with gray zippers, and olive green. I still wear them at work(school bus driver), and all my kids on my bus ask me where I got them. They're shocked when I tell them how old they are. I also have a pair that are similar to parachute pants with blue lining which shows when the side zippers are open.

I had a black pair of nylon parachute pants in 1985. I still have a very baggy parachute type material with long zippers on the side that revealed a white interior, and had a matching black shirt and cap for it. Also had white cotton parachute pants that wasn't nylon. You can find all kinds of color on E-bay. I have bought a new pair. I loved the way it felt, gave me hard-ons. I dont think they were popular in 87 and 88, more like 1980 to 1986.

I've seen some of my classmates wear them!

They were the thing! Shiny, slinky material, a ton of pockets, and they made the butt look great. Highly functional, very sexy. Dress them up with heels, down with tennis shoes. The boys did like them, always seemed to get attention in them, the slinky material showcasing the rear really did it. I didn't usually wear underwear with them either, they did feel good on. They went out as fast as they came in but were a huge hit when in. Carpenter pants kind of took their place, but just weren't the same.

I had the rare cloth version of purachute pants. People were confused as the pants had the zippers but not the material. Everytime i wore them i must have gotten at least 3 'what are those?'

Pin heads on commission at 'The Guitar Store ' use to hate us for wearing those pants, they always left scratches on the back of guitars.

I recently found a pair of authentic Bugle Boy "Countdown" solid black parachute pants at a thrift store. Perfect condition for like $2.99!! They were the perfect waist and length size! I couldn't believe that I found them. I see how much they go for on eBay, but I am not letting go of these for any reason. I was a teenager in the early 80's, and had a pair then. I am still living in the 80's in my mind, and they will always be in my closet. Will I ever wear them? When the time is right lol.

To Rob in 1985, I know what you mean, I had a pair we called Baggies, They were like parachute pants but mine were black and had zippers on side of leg that opened to a red color. I wish I knew the actual name or how to get a pair of those again. You can get parachute pants on ebay for around 70.00 but can not find these.

When they first came out in ‘83 they were called “flight pants”, because they were similar to pants worn by fighter pilots and they only came in black. Then someone found out parachutes are made from nylon and they started being called “parachute pants” and a year later they started being made in various colors.

I had one pair. Bought them at Merry-Go-Round in the early early 80’s. Plum/purple color with zippers down the entire sides- to the elastic ankles. Unzipping the sides revealed a pinkish color. And, yes, as one guy said - at this time they were still considered New Wave or Punk. I wish I didn’t ditch them in 1987.

I had a friend that had a dark navy blue pair of the Bugle boy countdown ones. I remember them being very tight. He was a little husky. I wanted a pair so bad so I saved up and got a pair. I had several pairs in high school and still wear them. I’ve had compliments on them. They make everything stand out pretty well.
