T&C Surf brand really began in the early to mid-70s with their surf shorts in the beginning. Beginning in Hawaii and popularized by local surfers. The shorts had alternating color panels and meet on each side with interlocking yin yang shape with the dark /white material. At the bottom they were slightly scalloped. Then the California surgery scene picked up the style in 1977+/- and then the Santa Monica skaters adopted then as their defacto uniform. Alva, Adams, Kubo, Muir, Constantineau, Red Dog and Peralta. I got my first pair of T&C shorts in 1978 in NC. My first pair of Vans in 1979. I was literally the only person who dressed like this—having relocated from Santa Barbara.
