I was born in 1976 and I don't remember these, but my mom has told me about them and pointed them out recently in a photo from my 2nd birthday (would have been 1978), so I guess it started a little earlier than the 80's.
these were awesome...to this day my sister is always looking on ebay to snatch a pair
