Is still sold at camping stores like Dick's today. They have Neopolitan and plain chocolate sandwiches.

The planetarium was the first place I thought back on when I saw this thread! Glad I'm not alone. That stuff tasted like freeze dried death.

yep got addicted at the planetarium and in my twenties was so happy to find it again. I know I am weird but I LOVE the stuff!!!

I liked this stuff too. I wasn't into really strong-flavored sweets, and this stuff was a bit bland, which suited me fine. Quite a concept.

I remember they used to have freeze-dried pizza just like the ice cream. The pizza was horrible but the ice cream was actually very good!

I loooooooove astronaut ice cream! I absolute adore it, and my kids are crazy about it, too. You can still buy it at Fry's Electronics stores.

This was always popular at the local science museum where I grew up, too. I tried it once and didn't like the texture, but unfortunately, my main memory of it is the fact that it the uneaten part got left in a cupboard for several months, and mealworms got into it. Most people seem to have much more positive memories of it.

Ahh, Astronaut Ice Cream! I'm a lawyer now, but I was a student at the UNC Chapel Hill and have wonderful memories of taking a mid-day meal in the park on North Campus, then heading down a dirt path and up to the Planetarium gift shop adjacent to the campus Arboretum for an Astronaut Ice Cream freeze-dried dessert. Believe, me, frisbee was much more fun after a little bag of astronaut ice cream! UNC Class of '94

I still have mine, sealed and all from a school trip we took in 2nd grade to a planetarium. I never did like the taste much, it was kind of greasy after it melted a bit, but I still thought it was fascinating.

Man, that stuff is DIVINE! Crunchy yet creamy yet melt-in-your-mouth. A great way to have ice cream during a hurricane 🌀
