Description
Just add water. It came with a small cake pan, and a packet of frosting. It was the best tasting chocolate cake I ever tried.

During the blizzard of 78 (close enough to the 80's lol) I insisted to my mom that we make her a birthday cake. We couldn't drive anywhere so we bundled up and walked across the street to the nearest store and bought a stir 'n' frost cake.

Please tell me where I can find Stir n Frost cake, have they been taken off the market, haven't seen them in years and they were perfect size for 2 or 3 people!!
Gerri - July 29, 2008 - Report this comment
Stir n' Frost cake mixes were great for camping. I have often looked in different stores for them but to no avail. Will the company be bringing them back on the market? I, along with many others (I am sure) would love to see them on the grocery shelves again.

The song went like this: When a big cake is more than you need, You need Stir n'Frost! When the cake appeared in the woman' s hand, the husband sat at the table in the background. When they spliced the film or video to make the cake appear, they never noticed that the man at the table seems to burp loudly as the cake appears and his cheeks puff up real big, hehehe. We laughed a lot as youngsters when the commercial played for years. I wish I could find it on the net somewhere. Penzman

I agree! These were the best cakes and were so easy to make when you were a kid. And sadly, I haven't tasted any frosting better since then. Please please please bring it back in its original flavour!

Stir-N-Frost cakes were the staple for my wife and me. We would love Betty Crocker to bring them back. We would buy them online.

Stir-N-Frost Cakes were the cakes to make!! Whether is was for bachelors who could not cook, or singles that had no need for big cakes, or for the person on the move who did not practice buying parishable goods like milk and eggs and would rather feast on fast foods. Please bring them back!!!
Laura and Lesley - April 25, 2010 - Report this comment
LOL We want them brought back too. We miss them. My Mom would never buy them, but one of my best friends Mom's let her get them. It was so cool back then being able to make one yourself in the Micro-wave, that wasn't really that small, at that time. LOL We would get them too. I would get them for my Neices also.

Where could I find stir and frost cake. In what store.
Al - June 17, 2010 - Report this comment
Yes for young couples and older retired folks these were really great. Quick and easy and they tasted great, just enough for two people. While we only buy one or two cake mixes a year now, if they would bring these back we would probably buy one or two a month! I suppose the decision to stop selling them was made by some still wet behind the ears college graduate with a degree in business management. Where are the board of directors that they don't hear the people and start marketing these again?
Pam - September 13, 2010 - Report this comment
Please bring these Stir and Frost Cake Mix back they are so easy and quick. Can you stilll buy theses anywhere? Bring them back!

Gosh, I am so glad to see others who share the same childhood pleasures. My mom bought our favorite --> Lemon Stir and Frost. We probably treated ourselves once or twice a month, and not one time did that petite cake last past midnight. We savored the first piece in the living room, talking and listening to music. For seconds, we raced each other to the kitchen, only to eat out of the pan until there was nothing left. Each time our stomachs roiled in pain, yet we continued until the legendary S & F cakes were deleted from production. Please bring back Stir & Frost. I will fly home and surprise my mom :))

I used to bake these cakes with my grandma. I clearly remember one cake where we didn't know the fork we had used for stirring had slid into the batter. We had a surprise when we cut into it!! Love, love, love Stir and Frost

Why do they quit making products that we all love. I made so many stir and frost cakes. I could use them now that it is just my husband and I at home.
T682 - May 15, 2011 - Report this comment
M, I made these with my grandmother too. This was my first foray into cooking as a child. I loved these!

Oddly, I was thinking of this great cake mix and wish I could eat it tonight...best cake ever...I miss it...I see I'm not alone...I used to have a spoonful of the dry mix, then again with the water added (maybe two spoonfuls) and of course had to steal the frosting some too. I swear I ate one weekly. I agree quit taking the products we love.

When I googled Stir & Frost I was pleasantly surprised to find this forum! Glad to see my memory is intact and these were as good as I remember, I always attribute my absolute love for yellow cake with chocolate frosting to this awesome cake from my 70's childhood. I miss it! :)

I emailed the company and they said it wasnt enough demand for them to bring the product back. I used to enjoy stir & frost as a child too. It was something i could do all myself! Email the company! Who knows if enough of us request it maybe they will for a limited time.
mike a - September 16, 2011 - Report this comment
I agree it was the best cake mix ever. I disagree with Betty Crocker. there was a big demand for the product. I have talked to many people who liked it and bought it regularly. Here's what to do. Get a regular Betty Crocker devil foods cake mix. use a 9x9 pan. empty half the powder add half the water and stir. (no eggs or oil) bake and frost with BC chocolate frosting. Its just like Stir and Frost.

I would LOVE for the these come back! My favorite was the spice cake... I would make it every chance I got! My mom would let me do the whole thing and I always felt like i had accomplished so much when we got to have it for dessert! I LOVED the icing! I loved how the cake was moist and light--most spice cakes i have had since then have been dry and heavy! Please bring them back! I have kids now that i know would love to make these for snacks after school!

How about trying a request campaign to General Mills? Maybe if enough people make a request the mixes will make a come back! www.generalmills.com and send a note through the "Contact Us" link...can't hurt to try!

Man! I really miss the stir n frost cakes. They were perfect for the kids and I when they were little, and later for hubby and I when we were down to just 2 in the house. Quick, and great tasting without fail! Would love to see these on the shelf again.
tai_1_on - February 06, 2012 - Report this comment
Maybe the reason the demand was low was because it wasn't kept on the shelf very well. Every time I went to buy one they were sold out and after awhile I couldn't find the box at all...

LOVED LOVED LOVED Stir n Frost cakes!!! We all need to contact Betty Crocker and ask for them to bring them back! Someone emailed BC in 2011 and was told there was not enough demand for the product. Well, how can their be a demand for a product, when newer generations know nothing about it?! I think SnF cakes would sell even better in today's times. Its hard to find time in our hurried lives for the simple things, and this would fit to right in their perfectly!

The banana spice cake was the perfect size for a manicured ounce of weed, and the brown flakes blended into the color of the cake. It fit my toaster oven perfectly, and made 6 or so little rectangles of happiness.

Late 70's early 80's treat. My mother use to make these all the time. Sadly mom is no longer with us. Seeing the pictures of adds from the 70's and 80's makes me think of her. Betty Crocker, bring this back for a limited time, have a feeling it will be a hit.

Just tried a Duncan Hines Perfect Size cake mix.. I foolishly thought it would be like the Stir & Frost cakes I remembered as a kid... How wrong I was! This new kind needs an egg, butter, says to use an electric mixer. Then it takes over 30 min. to bake & to top it off, it comes with a powder that you have to mix up the frosting yourself! The whole thing was a huge hassle and the cake didn't even come out that great w/ grainy runny frosting to boot! Bring back our Stir & Frost!!

We ate these all the time. I'm sure your marketing people are geniuses, but you are missing a big market share if you don't. Convenience.

When I lived in Germany in the late '70s, I remember my mom buying these and doing these up. They were soooo good.
Georgia - January 23, 2017 - Report this comment
Really wish you would bring them back. So easy and good especially for us older people. Duncan Hines has come out with one called perfect size. Don't waste your money. I could bake and frost 2 or 3 cakes for the time it takes to make one of those. Lots of ingredients and work and the frosting is like a glaze that just slides off the cake.

Stir & Frost was absolutely the best! It was easy, delicious, and priced well. EVERYONE I know loved Stir & Frost. So, my question is, Why stop making a product that is perfect? It's like See's deciding not to make candy anymore. It seems to be a trend now in this day and age that is does not matter what the consumer wants. Only what the corporation wants the consumer to have. My gut reaction tells me that no matter how much we complain and want them to bring back Stir & Frost, they won't do it.

Yes Yes Yes to Stir & Frost especially the chocolate cake with white icing! Made these all the time in the 70's with my Grandma. They are so good! They should bring them back I am sure there is a big market for them. It was like an easy bake oven style for adults, even the pan was included! Although I never understood they claim could feed 4??? Really, I could devour the whole cake ! Really delicious!
