Description
Big Mouth's were a HUGE jaw breaker on a stick. In the middle there was gum. I think you either had to break it or suck on it for days to get to the gum and every layer was a different color.

Hi! Around 1974 or so, there was a gum called 'Big Mouth' bubble gum. It was the size of a playing card, but at least a 1/2 inch thick and came in bubble gum, grape, and cherry flavors. I don't know anything about a jaw breaker, but if there was one in the 80's, they stole the name. I know a lot about this gum because I was around 10 or so and I would buy 3 each week with my 25 cent allowance. I also ended up being rushed to the hospital twice because of horrible stomach aches from the gum. Just thought you'd like to know. BTW - I grew up in Michigan in case the gum was only in the central or eastern area. Thanks, Carolynn

I don't know what possessed me to go out and look for "Big Mouth" gum, but I remember exactly what you've described. I am also from the Wayne County MI area, and will never forget the big slab of gum! We'd occasionally mix it with "Zots" fizzy hard candy for an odd twist to. I don't remember Big Mouth gum being around in the 80's, but I definitely remember it in the 70's. And if I remember correctly, the packaging had a large yellow smiley face on the top/front.

These were the best suckers in the world! I used to get them using my paper route money back in the 80s. The sucker itself was SO good (especially the red ones) and the gum in the middle was good as well.

I LOVED the BIG MOUTH suckers. There were so many layers to lick through that my mouth would get sore and it would take a few days to get to the center. My brother and I would get these from the drugstore next to the music shop where my sister took flute lessons. Ah, great memories. I wish they still made them. The flavor was great!

Big Mouth suckers were the staple candy for my brother and I growing up in the 80s. What happened to the best candy ever?

Like the rest of you I remember the slab of gum back in the 70's. If you chewed the whole thing it filled up your mouth. I'm also from Grand Rapids Michigan.

I have been on a quest for Big Mouth Suckers for years. I saw them on a trip to Canada in 1995. I bought as many as I could find. I think they were made by Leaf candy company. If anyone knows a source PLEASE post! BigMouthFreund!
