Ben & Jerrys has an oatmeal cookie ice cream that comes close to the flavor of the big otis. I miss it too!

The Big Otis was THE BEST ice cream product ever!! There will never be anything as good as that. Although I hate ice cream now (to the point that it makes me sick), I would kill to have 3 Big Otis Ice Cream Sandwhiches!

That was the best ever. I used to get it from Johnny the local ice cream man when I was 5 yrs old. Why do the greatest things disappear? You can still get a crappy plain old ice cream sandwich. BRING IT BACK!!!!!

Left a comment about this in the Food of the 70's section. If any of you have a Kroger's near by, I just discovered their Moonpie Ice Cream. Its under their 48oz. "Deluxe" brand. Its the first time I've ever seen it there. It tastes so much like a Big Otis(Which was also named the Big Wheel in the Nashville, TN area at least), it had me looking for the Big O again. Found this page and the 70's page and thought this may help! Go BIG O! XD

Growing up, my dad would take me after school to The Little Store in Hephzibah, GA and I would always get a Big Otis. I have wondered why and searched everywhere for one of these. Oh how I would love to have one again. Hope an ice cream company starts making them again!

Please bring back the Big Otis! It was the best ice cream cookie sandwich that I have ever eaten! Does anyone know the company that made it? Are they still in business? I am craving one now!!!

Okay, so I finally made my own Big Otis sandwiches and they really brought me back! This is a very simple method: get your favorite vanilla ice cream, some Wilson's milk chocolate melts & some soft oatmeal cookies (if you can find a Mrs. Field's around, they work great). Melt a bag of melts in a microwave-safe bowl, put the desired amount of ice cream between 2 cookies & dip the sandwich in the chocolate after it has cooled for 2-3 mins. Freeze for 20 mins. Try it out.

They sell something similar out west. It's called It's-it Ice Cream treat. It's the closest thing I've had to the original big Otis.

And it had the best name too, Big Otis! It doesn't get much better than that.
