Thick ice-cream sandwich, similar to ChipWich, sold at 7-Elevens. The chocolate cookie / chocolate ice-cream one was "sinfully rich". Discontinued, I think.

I remember the big wheel ice cream. They were chocolate, mint, or vanilla in the middle of a cookie and they were so good. Why did they stop making them.

The big wheels were a HUGE part of my childhood in Orlando, Florida during late 70s and early 80s. You could only find them at 7-11s. My 2 favs were chocolate and strawberry. I wish they'd make a come back.

I remember Big Wheels. The only kind I ever had was with oatmeal cookies with vanilla ice cream in the middle all covered in a chocolate shell. Some other company used to make a similar product but they called them "UFO's".

They're not coming back, because the company that made them went out of business. They tried to grow way too quickly, made a lot of mistakes, and are gone now.

I LOVED the chocolate cookie w/chocolate icecream - It's kinda neat to know that others share the same fond memories.

The 7-Eleven Big Wheels were far better than ANY ice cream sandwich today. I even liked how messy the chocolate shell got in the fingers by the time you're finishing the last bite. WHO OWNS THE RIGHTS??!! Bring 'em back.

Hi guys. I just found an Ice Cream similar to the Big Wheel(Which I first saw named The Big Otis in the late 70's, early 80's). If anyone has a Kroger's grocery store nearby, look for the Moonpie Ice Cream. Its under their 48oz. "Deluxe" brand. It tasted so much like the Big Otis/Wheel that I thought was my civic duty to let you guys know about it! Cheers! XD

The ice cream I'm looking for is called the UFO. It's two oatmeal cookies with ice cream in the middle and covered by chocolate, so good. But I can't find it any where but in stores down south.

Norma, we are in the South and found UFO's in Louisiana. What stores did you find them at? My family loved them. What is a Big Wheel? UFO's were also called Big Bites. It seems as though these are all similar just different names...

I live in South Arkansas and in the 80's we had big wheels in our small town store. They were the oatmeal cookies with vanilla ice cream with a chocolate shell. They were the best. Miss u lots big wheel, please come back. Lol

Yes!! I found people who knew the Big Wheel!! Nobody else I know remembers the Big Wheel. Yes the UFO is similiar to the Big Wheel, but it is much smaller and does not sell my favorite flavor (mint). Ijust found the UFO at a nearby gas station, but I was disappointed because they were a bit freezer burned. Yes, I want the true Big Wheel back too!!!

The Big Wheel is the same thing as an "It's-It". They're made in San Francisco and can be found all over the country at Safeway grocery stores. They are oatmeal cookies with ice cream sandwiched in-between and dipped in chocolate. They come in Vanilla,Mint,Strawberry,Chocolate and Coffee flavors. Go to Safeway, and check your ice cream aisle.

OMG!! All hail to the Big Wheel!!! I can't believe there are others having Big Wheel withdrawls! My sister, brother, dear friend and I used to stay up late studying (trust me, weekdays only!)when we were in high school and college. We made nightly runs to the 7-Eleven for Big Wheels. We never had anything other than the vanilla ice cream sandwiched between 2 Oatmeal cookies and covered in chocolate. 7 Eleven's in Memphis closed shortly after I introduced my husband into them and we jokingly say, I'm ready for my Big Wheel!!! Goodness, we miss them!!!! BRING THE BIG WHEEL BACK!!!!

The 1st time I bought a Big Wheel was at 7-11 in 1980. It was the chocolate covered kind. Oh!! So so good! After about 15 minutes I started to feel really bad. Nervous in a bad way and I could barely think. It passed and I was clueless as to what had just happened. I bought another one a few weeks later. The same creepy feelings! NOOOOO! I really liked em! I didn't touch another one for years, but cravings seem to have a mind of their own. Yep, 15 minutes later same bad feelings. I'm not raining on the HUGE Big Wheels parade (remember i liked em too), but am I the only earthling this has happened to? Curious. Oh, Dove Ice Cream Bars cause the same reaction! I haven't seen a Big Wheel for YEARS. I saw them in my local Safeway last week, (no I didn't buy one!) so I googled and found this website! My newest obsession will devouring this cool website, at least it's not chocolate coated...

I was just telling my husband about them last night... I remember getting them as a special treat as a kid -- now, I am an adult and moved to a small town in NC where there is not even a 7-11! I wish 7-11 would bring back the Big Wheels!

I was with a group of friends last night and brought up the Big Wheel. I told them how my friend and I would ride our bikes to the 7-11 and get one a couple of times a week when we were about 12 or 13 years old. I miss them. My favorite was the mint, but I also liked the vanilla. I would love for someone to start making them again. My kids would flip over them.

Eating an Its It right now.....bought at local Walmart last night. Brought back all those fond childhood memories of the Big Wheel. It was a staple growing up as we lived next door to 7/11. Have spent my adult life looking for it.....and so excited I finally found it. It will be a regular treat on my "cheat" night!!

I loved the big wheels too. Used to buy them at the 7-11 in Va. Wish they would come back. Just had a great value ice cream that reminded me of them. It was peanut butter cookies with peanut butter ice cream in the middle. No big wheel but it was pretty good.

Texas became one of the Stop n go stores that were formerly 7-11 before their giant corporate Trade, and, that was the last I saw of the Big Wheel. Unsure at what point they disappeared from 7-11's, but I'm sure someone out there got to eat the last Big Wheel. I hope he enjoyed it, they were the best lip smackin', finger lickin' Treat of All Time. I am in good company...Good bye Big Wheeler's.

Yes there was the Its-It also-made near San Francisco maybe not nationwide- and virtually the same (no chocolate covering) but the cookie tasted kind of weird to me. So I prefered the Big Wheel, and it had more varieties. I miss those a lot :-(9

I have fond memories of Big Wheels as well... the closest thing we have found is an ice cream called "It's It." Like the Big Wheel it comes in different flavors so far I have been able to buy mint and vanilla but I know they come in strawberry and a few other flavors. They have a website, check them out. If you go to their website and you are willing to pay $65 in overnight shipping you can get a case shipped to you, the cost of the ice cream is $22 in addition to the overnight shipping cost. I'm going to call the distributor and see if they can bring strawberry to my local store where I know they sell the mint and vanilla.

Big wheels were made by a dairy that was owned by the southland corporation -- the same people that owned 7-11 corporate at the time. I know this because my dad drove a truck for then in the 70's. Needless to say our freezer was full of them because he could get them free.
Cindy - June 13, 2017 - Report this comment
Just bought a box of It's It at Costco. They are similar to Big Wheels but not as good. The ratio of cookie to ice cream is wrong and the cookies are not as soft as I remember the Big Wheel to have been.

When I was a little girl, my favorite ice cream treat was the Big Wheel at 7-eleven! I now make my own! I use the oatmeal cookie recipe from the Quaker oatmeal canister (choc oat chip cookies), but I make them plain (no chocolate chips or raisins) with Mayfield vanilla ice cream! I put them in freezer baggies and re-freeze. They are delicious and incredibly addicting! I have never tried dipping them in chocolate because they’re pretty amazing without it. But for you adventurous chocolate lovers, you may find the perfect chocolate to dip them in! And if you do, please share!

My Dad, Luther Elkins, who worked for Southland Corp. in Dallas, Tx, originator and owner of 7-11s, was directly involved in the development of the Big Wheel in the 1970s. He was Corp. Manufacturing Mgr. at the time and was over all the company’s dairies, ice cream and other manufacturing facilities. My brothers, sisters, Mom, nieces got to eat all the prototypes my Dad brought hone as the product was developed. My Dad passed in 1996, so reading the comments above brought back fond memories.

“Big Wheels for a big deal!” Oh those were the days. As a kid I would walk the mile or so down to our local 7-eleven in great anticipation to procure this most delicious ice cream treat. I was just having some ice cream bars with my kids and reminiscing with them over what they missed out on. If only I could stream my favorite 80’s jams and share in the joy of the best ice cream novelty ever made!
