It was a hard square candy much like Now & Laters, but thinner. They came in flavors such as chocolate, banana, cherry and grape.

I remember them being the only penny candy when I was growing up in the 80's. Our local drug store sold them. They were pretty good to be a penny a piece.

I finally found a reference to Bingo sour chews penny candy .. probably the most difficult internet topic to discover .. every other candy has images of the wrapper, and discussion .. but until right now, I haven’t seen anything .. actually I can’t discern the original thread date either .. comments start in 2008 .. I bought these at a penny candy store in Princeton, MA around 1976-1980 .. the hypothesis is that maybe a small New England based market.. thus not many mentions .. wish I had a wrapper to post .. nothing like it exists .. close > starbursts .. mambo.. now & later .. but the grape & cherry flavored were uniquely tart .. (which is why I would like to find them again ;-)

I have a vivid memory of Bingo candy. It came in bulk, we bought them at little league games, very similar to Now & Laters as the OP mentioned. They were a bit harder too (not stale). I'd love it if anyone learns more.

Bingo Lover here! I lived in the Northeast Philadelphia section of Pennsylvania. Bingo taffy candies were one of the bulk candies that the classrooms could order to sell at "recess" (when there still was recess) in the late 70's early 80's. Penny a piece if I remember correctly, which was affordable when Now and Later came in at least a five pack for 10-15 cents. Many of the local "candy" stores carried them as well, easy grab and go handful of candies. There was a huge variety of flavors in each bulk bag, with banana (maybe) being the highest count. I've looked high and low and I don't see them reminisced on the internet either, except for a few random sites now and then. (or is it now and later, lol)? If you had Bingos in your area, you might also have had "Punches" or "Punchies"? They were small square fruit punch flavored candies much like a formed pixy stix. They were very good, too.

Bingos were my candy of choice at the Cranford Deli in Cranford, NJ the early 80s. They were the only candy in the store you could buy for a penny a piece. I remember banana and I think watermelon. I also wish I still had a wrapper since I probably ate hundreds of them. Surprised virtually no information about them exists on the internet. Glad everyone else here took the time to write in!

I am so glad i found this page. I have mentioned these before to different friends and no one remembers them and they think i am crazy. I think they are named after the dog on the Cracker Jack box.
