This particular ice cream broke my leg. I was living in upstate NY, and only ONE ice cream dude had it on his truck. As I was running toward the truck... pothole. CRACK!!! Worth it for the ice cream though. It was such a weird mix of flavors that worked, I firmly believe that this one little ice cream was responsible for Ben & Jerry's!

Strange. The Bomb Pops of MY 80s childhood were more like popsicles than ice cream, with a blue raspberry tip, white lemon center and red cherry bottom. The ice cream truck sold a similar item, 'Firecracker Pops', which were bigger and had the line-up of colors in reverse. Am I alone in this recollection???

SZA, you're right. That's the "Bomb Pop" I remember as well growing up on Long Island.

I grew up in New Jersey and the Bomb Pop was also the red/white/blue popsicle.

Remember the popsicle's fondly. They still carry these sometimes in small freezers in the check out line at the places like Freds. Don't remember the ice cream version!

I loved Bomb Pops! Firecrackers were good too and are made by "Popsicle" which is the brand name. Bomb Pops and Popsicle are different brands. The generic term is ice pop not Popsicle.

I would have to agree, Bomb Pops were red, white, and blue ice pops...

Our ice cream man had both kinds of bomb pops--they were exactly the same size and shape but I don't remember what the ice cream version was called. The ice cream version our ice cream man had didn't have a chocolate shell. The layers of ice cream flavors were banana (pale yellow layer), chocolate (brown layer), and vanilla (white tip). I'm wondering if maybe the ice cream ones were called Ice Cream Bombs (a play on words of the dessert "ice cream bombe")?

I remember the classic bomb pop had a gumball in the tip. I got them all the time between 1980 & 1988. No one else remembers the gumball. Am i crazy?
