I loved them. My dad was a teacher at my high school (Graduated 1991) and after school I rode home with him and we would stop at the store and I would pick a "grab bag" of the Cajun Spice ruffles and a drink. This happened almost every day. You would think Ruffles would have kept them on the shelf just because of me. I really miss them. I can still taste them sometimes if I really think about it.

I loved the taste of these chips, I was so bummed when they stopped making them. Put these under the category of "every thing I like they take away".

A grab bag of these, with a bottle of New York Seltzer to wash it down, is the ultimate 80s snack.

These were my favorite chips when I was a kid. I'd always make it my bargaining chip for my sister boyfriend to come see her if they didn't want me to snitch! It was just my way of getting a bag of my favorite Cajun Spice chips without having to pay for them myself. Does anyone know why they don't make them anymore?
Pac-Maniac45 - May 12, 2009 - Report this comment
I'm all for signing a petition to bring these back.

OMG... I'm not alone! I thought I was the only person who FREAKED when they took these off the market! LOL Now, let's get a bandwagon going and march down to Frito-Lay's corporate office!

Cajun Spice Ruffles are the reason that I am overweight today!!! I was a slender boy of 12 years when these chips came out. I developed a nasty 1 family-sized bag per day of these chips in the summer 1988. When I went back to school the next year, I was the fattest kid there. When the chips went off the market, I stopped gaining weight, but to this day I haven't lost any of it. I grew a foot, so I don't look that big, but I am still considered overweight (6'4" 270 pounds). I miss these chips, but I pray to God they never bring them back. I would probably end up killing myself on them.

I had forgotten about the Cajon ruffles. We loved those. Speaking of cajon, anyone remember the cajon popcorn shrimp Long John Silver's served in the 80's?

I LOVED these chips especially with bread and butter pickle slices-- I made them into little sandwiches. Sounds crazy but they were so good. I still make little sandwiches out of plain potato chips, dill pickle slices and mustard. Yum.

I used have these in my lunch almost every day during high school. You could stuff them inside a bland sandwich and get a good meal.

Loved these! A friend of mine that was a distributor said Lay's stopped making them because it was too close to the "Mesquite" and the M's were selling better. The mesquite was crap. These by far are the best american made chip ever.

I still crave these! I would love for them to bring them back or even do a retro version like Doritos does- I will just buy many bags.

Lisa, I would buy as many bags as I could, too... those, New York Seltzer, Penguins Frozen Yogurt, and red M&M's are the ultimate 80s cuisine...

There was a Hostess Cajun Style Chips. They were in a black bag. I would walk to the store every day with my friends and buy them. My all-time favorite chip.

Why did they take these mouth watering potato chips off the market?!
Gerald Logue - October 24, 2018 - Report this comment
I don't know why they got rid of those, except maybe the Cajun food fad dying out... I know Lays came out with a Cajun flavor a few years back, but it wasn't the same... maybe if they did a Cajun flavor Wavy Lays, it might have been closer to the real thing... Anyways, I was watching the commercial not too long ago, and one thing struck me, the way Justin Wilson described what was in the seasoning on the chips, you could tell just by his voice this was no ordinary flat chip, this was a party for your taste buds... I mean, from the way he described them, I could almost taste the cayenne pepper, onion, garlic, and paprika from his voice... I would definitely put the introduction of Cajun Spice Ruffles on my list of why I think 1987 was such a freaking awesome year...

Think Gerald is right, the Cajun food fad died out. BUT, these guys were so good, should have survived. Many think these guys were among the best. That's a true statement

These were excellent! They helped ease the pain of losing Ruffles Bacon and Sour Cream years before. Easily my favorite chips of all time. I need to figure out how to Quantum Leap back and get some mo!
