I remember this candy very well. But I can remember having it in the 70s too. When you bit it, it broke off and had the same texture as a lipstick. I think it was cherry flavored if I remember right. Can't find this candy anywhere, even places that sell old time candy.

I remember getting the candy lipstick with the gold wrapper in the early 70's. The bottom half was wrapped in gold (just like real lipstick back then) and the top was in a clear wrapper. It did break off like real lipstick and the others are right on the money. It smelled and tasted great.

I remember this candy too! Looked for it for a long time and found nothing...thought maybe I imagined it! So I'm glad to see someone else had it too! Wish they still made it.

I've been looking for this candy FOREVER, and I never could get any of my friends to remember it. Thank you for letting me know that I'm not the only one out here.

I looked for these original lipstick candies a long time and haven't seen them since I was a kid, but the first time I ever smelled a good 'Sharry Baby' orchid it strongly brought back memory of the lovely aroma. Sharry Baby smells just like that sweet candy. Those lipsticks didn't smell like cherry flavor to me, more like a vanilla floral scent.

I am 54 and remember this candy like it was yesterday! I can hear it break off....I can taste the flavor as if I just had one this morning! Good to know so many of you feel the same way about this candy lipstick. I grew up 3 blocks from candy store...probably first of the "convenience" stores. We would even be ice skating and walk down to the candy store with our skates still on...not good for the blades but oh what memories:)

Wow, I googled candy lipstick with gold wrapper because I was suddenly longing to taste it again and I found this!!!

That lipstick was one of my favorites and none of my friends can remember it either. I looked for it everywhere and found online that it's not made anymore. Wish someone still had one and offered it up on ebay! I'll have to go out and buy that hair conditioner with the same smell now just to see if the memory comes back.

I found something similar to these lipsticks called "flipsticks". I also remember them as my favorite corner store candy & have been looking for them for years!
Marianne - November 01, 2012 - Report this comment
I just got flipsticks - not the same, they are more like a taffy/carmel. I was so disappointed!
Kim - January 03, 2013 - Report this comment

I found all these wonderful comments while searching for the "arc of the covenant"... I mean candy lipstick...lol! I, too thought I had dreamed it up; no one else remembers the texture and taste or even the candy at all. I wanted to share this treat with my granddaughter, who has developed a taste for cherry chapstick, yuk! She is only 1 1/2 so thought I could do the old switch-a-roo on her. If anyone happens to find this once loved candy, I would love one!

I am 65 and remember buying this at the end of the school day and eating it while riding on the school bus on the way home. What candy manufacturer could we write and get them to start making it again???

I also LOVED this candy. Did you try to apply it like lipstick too? So who in blazes made it? I don't recall any markings on the package...and we bought them loose for about 5 cents.

Glad I am not the only one to remember these! I loved them, and still can taste them. Wish they were still made. Those and Brach's sour balls.

I would love to have one on these again! Still remember the cherry/floral smell and the way it broke off like lipstick. The flip sticks are not the same. Wish I knew who made them!

I'm 67 and remember this candy like it was yesterday. We were never without this candy in high school. I was saddened when I found out this great candy lipstick was no longer available. The last time I found this candy was in Arizona, early 80's. I purchased the whole box. Not thinking I tossed the box with the candy maker information. I would absolutely love to have this candy brought back to life. OMG the texture and flavor, I miss a lot. I know it would be a big hit with the kids today. Melt in your mouth chalk texture making your whole mouth smile with delight. Come on candy makers, "BRING THIS DELIGHTFUL CANDY LIPSTICK BACK PLEASE". OMG OMG OMG...!!!

I too have been looking for this candy lipstick in the gold foil with that unique cherry flavor. I just described it to a friend today as being like a piece of hot pink chalk that has this wonderful taste that you'll remember for the rest of your life. Good to know you all remember the one in the gold foil wrapper. I'm going to keep searching, I'll let you know when I find it.💋

My favorite HOT pink lipstick candy that had the middle section wrapped in gold paper complete with cellophane! I continue my search everywhere I go... LOVED the way it smelled, the texture reminds me of the bubble bars in the fuschia color my teenager brings home now from LUSH!

I too am 67 and grew up in Houston Texas with a little store just next door. I would hop the fence all for these wonderful melt in your mouth cherry lipstick candies. In 1964 we moved to Oregon and they were no where to be found. My friend Sharon in Houston sent me a box. I haven't had any sense then but would love it if Newman's Candy would start making them again.

I got so excited when I saw the Pinterest picture. I’m actually an Amazon head and ordered some from them. Needless to say, it was taffy and not at all the chalky, deliciousness of the cherry lipstick I had my mouth ready for😩😩. I’m 52 and I can still recall the texture and flavor. Hugs to you all

Please, someone if you can give a phone number for the Newman's Candy Company and we can all call and try to get it back! My sisters and I look everywhere for it! We were told they sold the recipe to the ones that make the taffy one and they changed the recipe!!! What a shame that someone can't figure out how it's made and start selling again! Never give up!

I used to buy this every Sunday after church in the early 70's. It was a soft break super smooth texture tasting like cherry. Not the newer type that tastes awful. Wish they had passed on the recipe and not just discontinued making it.
