Description
Fruit-flavored drinks sort of like Kool-Aid and Hi-C. They were supposed to have 10% real fruit juice. They were in little pouches, silver in color. THey were introduced in '83-84. THey are still around.

I can't tell you how many times I poked the straw completely through the pouch when trying to open these, resulting in red liquid geysers erupting from both sides of the package. Usually it only happened when a cute boy was sitting across from me at the lunch table...

You could not be admitted into an elementary school lunchroom in the 80's without one.

These were the mainstay of class parties. And yeah, I poked through the side and made a mess plenty of times myself, so don't feel bad Carrie. ;)

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING THE BEST SUMMER REFRESHMENT EVER: Step 1: Purchase favorite Capri Sun variety. Step 2: Cram as many of the little puches as will fit into your freezer. Step 3: On a hot day, remove one frozen C.S. out of the freezer. Step 4: Use scissors to snip off the top of the pouch. Steps 5, 6 & 7 ... Push that sucker up and devour it. It's like a mega Otter Pop! It lasts a looong time and hits the spot on a sweltering day. The best part comes at the end, when you get to toss back the super-concentrated juices that have collected in the bottom of the pouch while you were busying nibbling away`.

Boy, you're so right, Pnut...these were so expensive back in the day (comparatively speaking) that only the rich kids could afford them. I remember longing for the delicious, refreshing Elixir of the Gods during many an elementary school lunch...Strawberry Cooler is still my favourite flavour. Kids used to get in fights over these...!

Hmmm... as a kid I didn't know the cost, but they didn't SEEM expensive. I mean, I had them for lunch all the time in the early to mid 90's as a kid. And my family was lower middle class to middle class depending on the year.

the box is hard to open.

I remember when they first arrived on the market. No box, just a clear plastic case that you had to open up and the straws used to be one strip that ou had to rip one off of... They used to have Apple (yum) and Orange (I think they still do). When we were in Belgium, we even had one called Nectar with a strange, but delicious taste!

I felt so high class the day I was able to buy my own Capri Sun. My parents were so anti junk food I had to wait until birthday parties or birthday money to get some. They were great!

Yeh, Capri Suns have always been my favorite drink. I always loved when they would have little parties at school because they always had Capri Suns. Wiild Cherry and Pacific Cooler YUM :). My mom never let us get them because she said that they costed to much because "You can drink them in one sip" haha but now I just buy them on my own.

To the chick talking about how the Caprisun resulted in "red" liquid geysers. You must mean "clear" liquid geysers. Also, I am having an argument with my wife about how the price of these things went down. When I was younger I thought these were like 5 - 6 bucks a box compared to the 2 dollars a box today. Im taking early 90's

I think they came out before 83-84
Russia - March 14, 2013 - Report this comment
How much did they cost? Nowadays they are like $2 how much were they back then?
Charlie - January 02, 2014 - Report this comment
Yes indeed, they came out in 1969 and have been distributed in the U.S. since 1981. They probably cost like a quarter back then...
Bill - April 04, 2015 - Report this comment

As I got older I realized how much this stuff had in common with cocaine. Never made you as cool as you thought it would , cost way more than it should have & you always felt ready for a nap a couple hours after it ran out.
