YES! I loved Carnation Breakfast Bars! I miss them so much! These bars were originally a very densely packed bar with high protein and calories, but they actually were surprisingly not that sweet. They just had a really good sort of oat, malt, and milk chocolate taste. I loved both the Chocolate Chip and Peanut Butter, I could never decide which I liked more! I believe they came eight to a box, and I remember the wrappers where a thick foil-and-plastic lined paper. They were actually sort of tough to rip open without scissors! I just knew at the time the demise was imminent after Carnation came out with the Instant Breakfast drink packets (Remember the jingle? "Carnation Instant Breakfaaaaast! You're gonna love it in an instant."). They later changed the Breakfast Bars so they were chewy... probably to compete with Kudos bars which came out in 1987 or so. Sadly there wasn't much difference between the Kudos and the chewy Breakfast Bars in terms of texture, but I still preferred the Breakfast Bars for taste. They also downsized them, The chewy Breakfast Bars weren't as wide as the traditional crumbly bars. I remember Kudos bars seemed TINY though they came ten to a box. The chewy Breakfast Bars lasted a few years then they sadly disappeared off the shelf. I'm sure the product was a casualty of the insane granola bar competition of the time. Kellogg's new Nutri-Grain bars were probably what really killed it.

I remember taking the Carnation Breakfast Bars (Chocolate Crunch) to the hospital with me when I went to have my baby (1976) and later, being so busy with a home, husband, & new baby, never seeming to find enough time to eat, I'd grab a Carnation Breakfast Bar or two and a glass of skim milk. Later, going to work and no time to eat, I'd grab a Carnation Breakfast Bar and a carton of milk and I'd be set till lunch-time. All these years later, I still haven't forgotten them and can't find another product as satisfying.

I use 2 brign theses 2 school as a child and ate them in homeroom that was my breakfast.

I loved these bars as a kid. Years ago it was the greatest to eating my breakfast in school or on the bus.

It's funny that other people remember these breakfast bars as well. I have looked over the years to see if they are still on the shelves but haven't seen them since the 80's. I loved them as teenager in the 70's then in the 80's when my children were young they liked them as well. I remember getting up in the middle of the night with sick children and eating them. Haven't found anything anywere near as good.

I've been craving the Peanut Butter Crunch for years!!! I check the breakfast bar aisle at the grocery store every few months to see if Carnation has come back to their senses and started making them again but nope, they are never there. That the current owners (Nestle) are so pig-headed as to refuse to re-institute the original recipe is ... one of the greatest examples of marketing blunders known. It is used in many management classes as an example of company failure (perfect case study).

Yep, do I remember those breakfast bars. What gives Carnation, bring them back. They always were a treat for me and when I went backpacking with my dad. We would take 2-3 boxes of those and have them when we took off on a trail. Good memories for me and my sister. I am now 39 and can still remember the taste. Oh my gosh, I loved these too! The peanut butter chocolate chip and the peanut butter crunch bars were my staple for several years after college. When they switched over to the chewy formula, I went around town and bought up all the boxes I could find of the crunchy version. Please bring them back, Carnation!!

They were really really good. My kids started eating them and there hasn't been anything like them since. Why did they quit making them? Were they too expensive to make? I'd pay more for them. I lived on these up to the 90's and didn't realize they got pulled from the market. I have a few unopened boxes stashed in an earthquake kit and started to eat them a few years ago, but now I will ration them out. These are the original Carnation style, and not the chewy Nestle style bars. I am afraid to try them now, they might be a little stale.

They were a staple of my diet. The texture was just right, it wasn't too sweet, it was nutritious and most of all it was delicious. These chewy bars today just don't cut it. I love Carnation and still buy Instant Breakfast all the time. I sure hope that they reconsider and make the Breakfast Bar again someday. It was a superior healthy snack bar. I really miss it!

Those original densely packed bars were so good! I have no idea what the nutritional information was on them, they were probably full of trans fat, but man were they good and satisfying. I miss them! I recall Carnation reformulated them at some point, and ruined them, ala New Coke. People stopped buying them and they discontinued them. Sad....

Had these in my mother's cuberd back in the 1970's. That was back in Wayne. They were good tasting and a real treat. She'd let me have one now and then. Think that was the first nice tasting heath bar. Started a revolution.

I am soooo glad to know that I am not the only one missing these yummy bars :) I used to eat them for breakfast and lunch, always alternating between the chocolate chip and peanut butter. I hated it when they went to the chewy recipe but I tried and then they just disappeared. A few years ago I e-mailed Carnation asking if they would consider bringing them back or at least selling the original recipe to someone else but the response I got back was to drink the instant breakfast. Hopefully there will be enough of us for Nestle to finally start making the bars again.

I, too, used to eat one every morning before school for years. My guess is that they were somewhat based off of the bars that sometimes came in military C-rations or other rations since both types were very dense. Being raised by a military father the CBB's were the closest thing I could eat to those energy bars / food bars when I was a kid - later that didn't matter. I liked their utility. I'm here because, yes, I searched for CBB's as well, and would now buy them if they were as good (have to imagine just a little more investment would make them taste even better). I agree that it is sort of stupid that they had a niche market covered and gave it up only to be like other bars, then to give it up entirely.

Balance makes a peanut butter protein bar which is reminiscent of the carnation instant breakfast bars I grew up loving. I will still LOVE for the Nestle company to bring back the breakfast bars!!

I was living in Dallas in 71/72 and they asked for volunteers from our 4th grade class to taste test a new breakfast idea. I signed up and on a Saturday morning they loaded us on a school bus and took us to a test facility. I didn't eat any breakfast because I thought I was going to get one from Carnation. They gave us these 1/2" X 1/2" squares and had us chew them and roll them around in our mouth, then spit them in a trash can, rinse and spit, and then asked us what liked or didn't like about each flavor. Never got to swallow anything. Went home hungry that day but I always thought I had a part in deciding what flavors we got to eat later.

This is a waste of time. WHERE the HELL are they? There was one site and there aren't many, that said they're still being made, but, yeah, you know, just not in OUR area. Well, to hell with that! And if all these people on this thing were to sign the petition and it was to actually make the person(s) in charge at Nestle's who gave a damn, make them widely available, then it would mean something. Then it'd be a worth while thing. Till then, it's an irritation, an itch, we can't scratch.

They were advertising something in my Sunday paper coupons about a new bar that they are coming out with. I even cut out that section and trashed the instant breakfast coupon. I hope its something similar to the old bars. We shall have to wait and see.

I am jumping on the bandwagon too; Really miss the malty, dry, crunchy Carnation Breakfast Bars that I used to buy in the late 80s and early nineties. Being a cheap, hellraising bachelor in my twenties, I always tried to get bang out of my buck when I went grocery shopping, and didnt mind paying a little extra for these six bars, in a box -goodness. The wrapping was even awesome, in like, a hard foil that kept em crunchy. I would eat one and crave another one within the hour. Then, they started making too many different flavors, but I liked the chocalate chip, peanut butter and crisps the best. EVERYTHING TODAY, IS JUST AN IMITATION...And I know because they got chewier, and before long, they disappeared and I had to call Carnation themselves.Could not believe they were discontinued.

Everyone mentions the same peanut butter & choc. chip but I most remember the chocolate malt flavor which was my real favorite. There also was some kind of vanilla or vanilla malt flavor but since this was 30 years ago I have a hard time recalling. I can't believe some of the things I've read. First I think it's great that I was telling my wife as we were shopping looking through thousands of different fiber bars I was telling her about the carnation instant and how me and my brother would get them for Christmas and spit up the box's through the rest of the year and I read others did the same. Yeah, that awesome chalky taste.... what was it that made Coca-Cola so addictive in the beginning.......? Not to be cynical, but they must have had something that wasn't good, or more likely, something the FDA didn't like. I'd love to see the ingredient list. Mostly so I can get to work making my own. I can't imagine the money to be made, just think, for every box we adults would buy, we'd also buy a box per kid. Heck, I'm bigger, I'd need two per every one my kids got.... Ah, just like old times.

Oh wow!!!! I have been trying to find these breakfast bars for so long. I grew up in the eighties and these breakfast bars were the only thing I would eat!! What happened? Where did they go? why did they go? Please bring them back!!

my uncle was vice president of Carnation Instant Product division. Sorry guys, but we had cases and cases at our house I would eat three maybe four at a time. They were all time most delicious snack anytime. My cousins and I got to test out all the samples before they went to production. Had I have known that those stupid kudos would be that and Carnation Instant Breakfast bars we would definitely have given those lame bars the thumbs down. Sign the petition we need them back. loved that foil packaging to chocolate chip all the way. But the peanut butter was good too

The Carnation breakfast Bars, peanut butter were the best snack ever! I have searched for them for years. The closest I have found to them (and they are not nearly as good or crunchy) are the Optifast Peanut Butter Chocolate bars. They are a high protein low sugar meal replacement bar. Tasty!! But would still prefer the Carnation original bar!!

I would love to be able to have a Carnation Breakfast bar! I ate one every day growing up in the 80's and nothing has ever been made that compares. I have tried to explain to my kids how yummy they were but wish they would bring them back so my kids could taste for their selves!

I love the breakfast bars too. They really were a yummy and very satisfying breakfast or snack. My brother and I were always running late to school when we drove across town my last year of high school but we always had time to grab a bar or two and some milk. In 1993 my wife and I were able to take some with us to Europe and they made a good, cheap lunch when we were too busy being tourists. They are far better than ANY so called power bar or so called nutrional bar. They had a great nutritional balance of protein, fat, carbs, fiber and even some vitamins. What's more, they actually tasted like food, unlike all of those wretched bars out there now that taste like low quality chocolate coated chewy coat hangers! Carnation, bring them back. Change the name if you have to. Market them to gym fanatics or just go back to selling them as they were: a great portable breakfast for families and individuals on the go.

I really do miss the Carnation breakfast bars. My favorite was the chocolate chip. Everywhere I travel, I go and see if they are back on the shelf. I wish they will bring them back. There is no other bars that I have tasted that taste as delicous as the Carnation bars in my opinion. Miss them very much.

Dont Lie! I'm 42 and called Carnation over 20 years ago asking why they got rid of them. The girl told me they had MSG and they changed the formula. Guess what? Those sucked and didn't last!! Bring back the original!!

Just came across this website after yet another trip down memory lane where my husband & I reminisce to our children about how incredible CBBS were. We both LOVED them as kids; one bar with a big glass of cold milk was the best breakfast Ever!! We've been looking for them for years and had decided they must've contained something pretty harmful for Nestlé to not make them anymore. Seeing the sheer volume of desperate posts here, all begging for their return kind of confirms that, I fear. Both of us will sign the online petition, contact Nestlé via email & phone, & do anything else we can to try & convince them to bring the originals back!!! I'll also check out all the bars recommended in these posts; it would be so great to find a suitable replacement, wouldn't it?? Good luck, fellow Breakfast Bar addicts!!!

I used to love the original chocolate chip breakfast bar, they were so tasty and possesses their own original texture in the mid-seventies. They weren't trying to copy whatever some other company was doing, the flavor was great too and the bars weren't sweet like candy! Curses to the numbskulls whom are responsible for deciding to remove Carnation breakfast bars from grocer shelves, fantastic product!

I'm 43 and my memory of these delicious bars take me back to junior high school. I had a best friend who's mother kept these snacks for her like a "fix". I remember the first day I tried them. The thickness and density, the delicious chocolate chip flavor. The fact that they went so well with milk. IMHO these were the most addictive tasting things that I had ever tasted. We would eat 2 at a time and it never seemed like I could eat enough. And 6 to a box were very small. I miss these bars. If they brought them back I would be so happy. Best snack ever!

While nothing beats the flavor of these bars. I'm reminded of them when I pack myself a bottle of Soylent for my commute. The malt-and-milk ingredients were for early formulas so it's no surprise we were seeking the same nurturing from out breakfast bars.

I would go to work early at our local grocery store in the morning to decorate cakes so I could get off early. The first thing I would do was to buy a box of carnation breakfast bars and a bottle of Welches grape juice. I'd finish both before going home from work. I can't even describe how much I miss them and wish they would bring them back.

I REALLY love the carnation breakfast bars, especially the chocolate chip. I would eat them often after practice and in the morning of course! I, too, scan the shelves at the store in hopes one day they will return on the shelves. Please bring them back! Leave the bar the same go crazy with the packaging if necessary.

The closest I've gotten to these is the Nature Valley Protein Cheey Bar- found them at Costco! if you put it in the fridge the consistency is almost the same. Pretty much the same ingredients. Not exactly the same, but I can trick myself sometimes!

Every kid that was a "latch-key" kid growing up in the 1970's and 1980's LOVED these bars! I know it to be true cause I LOVED them too and just look how many comments are on this site for a breakfast bar that was discontinued so many years ago! I'm so hungry!

These were so good and to think nobodies came even close to making them like this again. I was on The Valley when they came out Star Trek Stile. What does "Latch-key" kid mean LaSponge? Does that mean you'd come home and both parents were at work? And, how come after all these years and tech in the food world, they still can't make anything this good? I miss the box, too.

I so miss the Carnation Instant Breakfast Bars! As a teen I was a VERY picky eater and these were the only thing my mom could find to get me to eat breakfast before school, I crave them to this day.

Just sent Nestle an email, though it probably won't do much good. I grew up extremely poor and the fact that my mother actually found room in the budget for these as a "special snack" says how good they were. They were "regular people" food. We never got "regular people" food. We were so poor, having my first Manwich at another kid's house was like a religious experience. ;)

I remember I found an unopened bar under my bed and hid in the closet from my sister to eat it. If they are so popular and delicious why were they removed from the market???

Breakfast Bars were a staple at my home and I remember always having them with my brother. A bar and a glass of milk was a great way to start the day or a satisfying snack after school or after dinner. My brother was always partial to the chocolate chip variety, I loved the peanut butter crunch. Like everyone else here we were mystified and disappointed when they disappeared off the shelves and we still wonder to this day why exactly they were discontinued as they always seemed to sell well. I loved these as a kid, Words can not describe the taste. It didn't taste like granola or even like peanut butter. I remember they were dense. I liked the chocolate chip one.

Like others, I also loved these bars. Usually ate a couple down fast with a glass or two of milk when rushed in the morning back in the late 70's and 80's. Wish they still had them on the shelves. My favorite was the regular chocolate, but the chocolate chip and peanut butter bars were good too. If Nestle refuses to bring them back, they should at least release the original recipes.

I grew up in Colorado eating these before swim team practice at 6 Am every morning in the summer. I now live in New Zealand and I recently ran across a product by the Tasti company called Snack Logs. They are the closest thing that I have had since the mid 80's and very similar to the Carnation Breakfast bars. The Carb Coated Fruit and Nut ones taste very similar to the Carnation Chocholate chip ones that I remember. The texture is nearly the same and the taste is very similar. See if you can get them where you are.

My go to breakfast and snack over candy bars. Pity Carnation chose to discontinue this item cause I'd much rather have them as a snack even today.

Loved these as well. Yellow box, yellow wrapper, the peanut butter ones with the peanut butter dip were my favorite. I believe they had one that was both peanut butter and chocolate. The closest thing I have found is Trader Joes Fiberful Granola Bars: Rolled Oats and Peanut Butter. Now that I am way older, the added fiber is a bonus! I love that there are others like me out there. Bring them back Carnation!

I used to live off these things in my twenties. The only ones I liked (never tried the others) was peanut butter. I found a very close albeit expensive resemblance, Atkinson Peanut Butter Bars. Try them.. taste the same, size is a little off.

I was in high school. My best friend's mother would get these from Fedco. When I would spend the night me and my friend would fight over these bars. These were delicious. I still think about them all the time. If they ever reintroduced these to the public, there would be a shortage for sure. They were thick and dense and delicious. All you needed was a glass of milk. We tried to savor every bite. But as soon as it was eaten, we were back in the cupboard getting another one. Gosh I long for these again. I can almost taste it.
