Description
I believe this is the name of a bite-sized processed cheese snack that was individually wrapped in cellophane wrappers and bagged. They were kept in the dairy case with the other processed cheeses. I believe Kraft made them and came in two flavors: sharp and mild. There was maybe 40 in a bag and really tasty! I remember my sister and I polishing off a whole bag of the stuff in front of the T.V. the day my mother brought them home from the store.

These were awesome: the mild flavor was the best. Totally processed, but just a perfect texture and taste.

My grandmother always had a bag of cheese kisses in the fridge, they were one of my favorite childhood snacks!! I didn't think anyone else remembered them... late 70's early 80's I think. They were yummy and I wish they'd bring them back!

I've thought about cheese kisses from time to time over the years. I figured someone out there must remember them. I think it was a snack before its time.
Elise - December 20, 2008 - Report this comment
They were so good. My mom would buy them and I'd have them as a snack after school.
Bethany - January 14, 2009 - Report this comment
This is too funny. I am reading The Stand by Stephen King and he mentions them in the book. I thought it was just one of those things that Stephen King throws into his books to throw people off, but I had my husband look it up anyway. Go figure they are real, who would have guessed.

For the past 25 years or so, I've had everyone thinking I was insane. I'd ask people about cheese kisses and they would say I was thinking of cheese curds. NO, kisses I'd say. My grandma used to buy these for me and I've been thinking about them my whole adult life. Horrible loss, the vanishing kisses! Thanks for this site. I'm glad I'm not nuts.

I loved Cheese Kisses! They came individually wrapped. They came in three flavors I believe. Cheddar, American, and Swiss. I liked the American best. I also remember the commercial where the teenage girl is sitting on the stairs talking on the phone with a bag of kisses in her lap and her brother goes by and steals the bag. They came out in the late 70s, about 1977 I think. Ah memories.

My mom used to put cheese kisses in our school lunches. I loved it when they would show up. My sister and I were starting to think we had just not remembered the name right - could never find anyone else that remembered them.

I remember distinctly the town we lived in between 1974-1976. We bought Cheese Kisses during that time. I begged my mom to buy them for me. They were pretty good.

I've never come across anyone that remembers them or has had them either!!! I ate them as a kid in Salt Lake City circa 1975-77!!! No, you didn't dream them up!!! They existed!! And they were delicious!! Kids today would delight in having individually wrapped bite size pieces of american cheese!! And for us grown ups, maybe pepper jack, or havarti, or muenster. I've actually tried to recreate them for my own snacking purposes by wrapping similarly shaped pieces of velveeta in plastic wrap. In my fondest childhood memories there was always cheese kisses!!

Jacqueline Graham - October 27, 2010 - Report this comment
Cheese Kisses were the GREATEST thing in the ENTIRE WORLD!!!!!! I would give my entire years salary for just a couple bags. I am not kidding at all! I used to BEG my mom to buy them and she did, but not a whole lot because they were expenseive. I would eat the entire bag the minute she got home. PLEASE BRING THEM BACK!!!!!!!!!

Add me to the list of those reading "The Stand," and thinking, "Cheese Kisses? Surely he must be making that up." I worship at the altar of Mother Abagail and Google!

Yeah, I looked it up because I'm reading The Stand as well (for the tenth time probably). Lol. I've been looking up lots of stuff while reading it this time around, just for fun. Stephen King doesn't tend to just make up products, it turns out. It's just that the book was written in 78, but staged in 1990, so it's kind of weird to see 70s references thrown onto a time when the New Kids on the Block were hot, lol.
Susan - January 16, 2012 - Report this comment
Just ate some hill shire farms mild cheddar cheese, block form, but it tastes just like the cheese kisses, brought me back!
Kristen - March 27, 2012 - Report this comment
Yes! I never forgot those little golden nuggets of yumminess, just the name. Think of the money Kraft could make off of us aging X'ers if they brought back cheese kisses!
Sue - July 07, 2012 - Report this comment
Borden dairy made those Cheese Kisses and I remember always being reprimanded for leaving those little cellophane wrappers all over the place. Great little snacks - highly processed cheese that probably wasn't very good for ya - but what the hell! Kids living in the 70s & 80s were guinea pigs to every food company and boy we didn't care!
Brandy - October 22, 2012 - Report this comment
The Stand is my favorite book of all time--can't tell you how many times I've actually read it! Since I'm reading it yet again with a smartphone in tow, I've taken the chance to Google all the thongs I've wondered about--cheese kisses being one :)

I am so glad that I am not the only person on the planet who remembers these. They were great and I would always gobble them up whenever my mother brought them home. Along with the pudding in the can with the pull tab top.

Thrilled to have found this. My grandmother had these for me in the 70s and 80s. I hated cheese but loved these!! I'm so glad other people remembered eating them, when I talk with people no one knew what I was talking about.

Most everyone I've asked about these looks at me with a blank stare. SO happy to have found my fellow Cheese Kiss lovers out there. I grew up in Houston in the 70's; and these were pretty popular back then.

Wow, this is a pretty impressive gathering. I'll probably never be back on this site to see any responses, but I too came here because of The Stand. Although it appears that Bordelo made them, not Kraft.

Add one more reader (third time) of The Stand who googled the Cheese Kisses this time around!

Add one more to the list of people reading The Stand! Although I think it’s funny that in his version of 1990 these still exist when it looks like they’d been gone for almost a decade at that point!

yeah The Stand

I remember when my grandma bought them at the local IGA. She told me not to go hog wild and i didnt, but i loved the taste of them and wish kraft would bring them back.

I’m reading The Stand for the third time, because the Corona Virus scare and quarantine has just taken flight. I do NOT remember cheese kisses, but looked it up just to see if King had made it up, as another comment said. Wish I could taste one. Sam!s has a pack of small individually wrapped Havarti and Gouda cheeses. I love them!!
Bob - March 31, 2020 - Report this comment
One more Stand reader, here. LOL The 'complete and uncut' version came out in 1990 but the book was originally written in 1978. King changed the date of the story, and updated some things to reflect this change, but a lot of little stuff got missed, like Cheese Kisses or the fact that bottled drinking water wasn't readily available, which it would have been in 1990 but not in 1978.

I’m listening to The Stand on Audible now during my quarantine - second time and came across the Kraft Cheese kisses reference in the book. I don’t remember these but they sound wonderful. Everyone stay well.

Another Stand reader which brought me here. The Stand is a treasure trove of product memories for those of us alive at the time (70s). Part of the fun of reading the book! I don’t think ANY of the products are made up.

Rereading The Stand. Cheese kisses in the book sent me here. I don’t remember eating them when I was a kid, but they sound wonderful. Wouldn’t it be great to go back to the 80’s and just enjoy all the silliness in a time that’s NOT now?

Fellow Stand readers? I think if Captain Trips comes back around, we should probably all meet back here, since I have a feeling we will be the ones psychically linked, and needing to head to boulder to meet up! :)
