Blubbs - February 05, 2008 - Report this comment
Ate these all the time in grade school. I still get bummed when I think about them and how they don't make 'em anymore. They were basically just chocolate covered Twinkies but still amazing.
jay - February 15, 2008 - Report this comment

Barbara - June 20, 2008 - Report this comment
Do NOT order from them. Numerous complaints - they take your money, do not ship, and do not answer many emails. Also do not supply a phone number to call. Just google them.
Brian - July 09, 2008 - Report this comment
I was told these are still sold on the West Coast & also in Hostess outlet stores. I just came back from a trip to Arizona and couldn't find them. If anyone is willing to do me a major favor and ship some to me, I would gladly pay you. Brian-PhotoFires@aol.com

The best snack cake of all creation! I used to buy these all the time and would give my left arm for 1 box of these. Let's get together and submit a petition to bring these back!!!

Chocodiles are still being produced. They are more like a chocolate covered Twinkie than a Ho-Ho as stated here. 1. find a hostess outlet first to see if they sell them. 2. Find a hostess distributor to see if they distribute them. The shelf life on Chocodiles isn't very long so they aren't shipped very far out from the distribution centers. I found them in 1997 in Southern Illinois. Later I learned there is a distribution center in St Louis. There is also a distribution center near Bakersfiled California. I found Chocodiles in 1999 in a discount grocery store in Bakersfield. Also in numerous gas stations between Bakersfield and L.A. and Vegas. You can also put these in a deep freeze and when you want one, let it thaw and eat. YUM!!

I ordered a box from freshchocodiles.com and got mine just fine. 1 box is $9, I missed them so much it was worth taking the chance to try and get them. I got them pretty quickly and had them gone in 3 days!!! They were AWESOME!!! I WILL order more!!

I don't know what Barbara is talking about. I ordered 4 box's (A few as Christmas presents to some family that still think they are discontinued). Ordered them and got them via First Class USPS just fine. They are great!

Cely, I don't know what you are talking about, I ordered 3 boxes from them and received them just fine. Just email them on the contact page of the website if you did not get them.

I suppose I am fortunate. In Utah, they show up sporadically, and I have been known to buy them on occasion when I encounter them. For whatever reason, I was talking with a friend about them one day, and a few days later I found a bag attached to my door, and inside were two chocodiles. He had found them in a convenience store and decided to leave some for me. I just ate one and found it rather lackluster, which is about how they usually are. I suppose their stature grows in places where they are unavailable. Maybe if they disappear from this area, I will suddenly crave them and decide that they are gourmet treats. Now if only I could find a Hostess blueberry pie; I haven't seen one of those in ages.

I too got scammed. Chocodiles never shipped. I've sent emails direct, through their site and via Paypal. Still nothing. Paypal is trying to get my money back. Don't trust them!!!!!!!! Costco online sells them. Go through them!

I'm eating a Chocodile right now and googles "I love Chocodiles" and I found this site. I bought mine for $2.50 at a Hostess Outlet store here in Phoenix, AZ. They are going to expire 5/25 but I doubt the whole box will even last that long. I slightly remember the commercial with an alligator. Try them zapped in the microwave for about 5 seconds....YUM!

the freshchocodiles.com site is real, however, you are taking a shot ordering from them. I have placed a couple of orders in the past, sometimes shipped and received no problem, and the last time they never came and they were completely unresponsive to e-mail.

Does anyone remember something that HOstess made called "Chocolicious"? It was chocolate cake rolled around chocolate cream with some kind of chocolate drizzles or sprinkles on top.

DO NOT ORDER FROM FRESHCHOCODILES.COM!! I honestly DO NOT think this is a real company. I paid on 7 Mar 10 and after two weeks of nothing I attempted to email and call (calling the 650-648-3278 only gets you a recording telling you to email them). No response at all. Luckily I paid through Paypal and I filed a claim (which they never responded to) then raised it to a dispute. They only responded to the dispute after I filed a report on The Internet Crime Complaint Center (www.ic3.gov) and even then it was only to provide a a USPS tracking number that showed a package being delivered over 100 miles away from my house! I immediately called Paypal and asked them to look at the complaint. They did and immediately refunded my money. THis place is a joke. Anyone who gives them good reviews must actually BE them. I did however find a place to order Hostess products: wwwLooneyStuff.com They seem to be reputable. I received a confirmation email and they have no complaints that I can find anywhere. They don't have Chocodiles but they have just about everything else.

I'm going to California from Texas in July! I hope to find them while there, I too got sucked into Freshchocodiles and had to report like Grumpy did above. My sisters in VA are already asking me to ship. If I can find them, I will buy many if anyone needs a fix they can pay thru paypal AFTER I have them in hand!! (I have good ebay feedback too!)
BostonJohn - July 17, 2010 - Report this comment
I searched forever to get some of these. They sell them in southern california, but none of the hostess outlets would send them to me. I finally gave in and ordered from the freshchocodiles.com site( I read all the bad reviews). About three weeks later I received my order, I can't remember ever being so excited to open a package in my life. I happily tore open the chocodiles and devoured two immediately. This site is real, they even put a freshchocodiles.com fridge magnet in the box. I will buy some from anybody at anytime if you happen across them in your travels. I have spotless feedback on multiple online buying, selling and trading sites. jmholmes25 at gmail dot com

There's a Hostess store nearby, but no Chocodiles :( I ordered from "freshchocodiles.com" and got two boxes about three days later (in Michigan). It was an extremely tight turnaround on the expiration date. But there are so many complaints about them, maybe I just got lucky. I guess I'll find another source from now on.

I worked in a Hostess outlet in 2000-2001 and I remember they had a Chocodiles promotion but it was only like 2-3 months and then they were not available to our drivers (for delivery to c-stores and supermarkets). So there was a very short window of availability. It sounds like that has continued through the years...weird!

I ordered twice with freshchocodiles.com and have recieved both shipment. I've had no problems with them and I lived in Maine at the time I ordered them. I now have moved to Oregon and found them at a local store. The only problem with them is that there were expired. I do plan to order them again. I'll post on here if there are any problems! Thanks!

Here is the response I received from Hostess: Dear Mr. Matt XXXXXX, Thank you for contacting us concerning our Hostess Chocodiles. We are sorry that you have been unable to find our Hostess Chocodiles. Unfortunately some of our products are only available in certain areas of the country. We have discovered a couple websites that provide mail order delivery, however. Please feel free to visit chocodilesnow.com or famousfoods.com for more information on mail order. Perhaps you will be able to find the cake or bread product you are looking for on one of those websites. Please understand Hostess Brands Inc. is not affiliated with these websites in any way and is not responsible for delivery or payment issues. Thank you for your interest. Sincerely, Evelyn Rodriguez Consumer Response Representative Famous foods does not carry them but chocodilesnow does. I ordered 2 boxs and got one free the total after shipping was $35 and some change. Hope this helps

Before Hostess was sold last year, I still found Chocodiles when I would visit Las Vegas or California. Not sure if you can still find them. I grew up on Long Island, and I used to get them all the time when I would go to 7-11.

I freeze twinkles then cover them with chocolate almond bark. I have been desperate for years to eat a chocodiles. Great memories as a child from the 80's! Pretty good substitute.

what db said...they're not the same and they suck...i then found an article where the NEW Hostess says the recipe changed "slightly" but they look and taste pretty much the same. They lie.

I'm an avid lover of Chocodiles since my childhood (got a couple of boxes shipped the West Coast a couple of years ago, after years of not having one). I was very excited upon hearing of the return. I am thoroughly enjoying them again- only difference really is the size. These Chocodile Twinkies taste just fine. (I still have about eight of the larger ones in my fridge- also had one recently, tasted fine).
cc - October 01, 2014 - Report this comment
Just tried them and I agree with db & me2. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME! :_( BUMMER! I have also read where some people say the original Chocodile was nothing more than a chocolate covered twinkie. Not true either! Genuine Chocodile fans know the difference...

I remember that whenever my sister and I would go to "Bring Your Daughter To Work" day, we'd have to leave the house at 4:30 in the morning, and my Dad would stop at the gas station to get something to eat for the long road trip. I always got myself a banana nut muffin, but my sister lived for these chocodiles. When we couldn't find them anymore, she was a mess. Almost like a best friend died or something...
