Does anyone remember the Choc-o-Diles? They were chocolate covered chocolate twinkies? They were out in the late 80's.

I remember having Chocolate Twinkies. I couldn't understand how most people would rather have the standard vanilla than these. These were better IMO.
Aimee - November 23, 2008 - Report this comment
These were AWESOME!!! Why don't they make them anymore? It's been 25 years, it's time to bring them back!
SZA - November 25, 2008 - Report this comment
I'm not sure but I think chocolate Twinkies & Chocodiles are two different things ... chocolate Twinkies were just like regular Twinkies but w/ chocolate cake instead of the yellow. Chocodiles were a regular Twinkie dipped in chocolate. I think, anyway
gaclements - March 16, 2009 - Report this comment
Yes, It was a chocolate Twinkie. It was a chocolate cake with a white filling, not a covered with chocolate. I'm sure, 100%

I've only had these once. I got them at a gas station in Winnemuca,Nevada 8 years ago. They were so good, but I haven't been able to find them anywhere else. And no one believes me either, they always say they must have been Suz-Q's or Zingers. And I'm like "I know the difference between a Zinger and a Twinkie!!!" So yeah, glad to have proof that I'm not making this up,lol.

Was the chocolate twinkie the same as what was called a "chocolate finger" back in the 70s? Like a Hostess cupcake(white squiggle included), but shaped like a twinkie.

I remember we had a box of them in the kitchen! I was beginning to think it was imagination, until I saw this page. I can't remember if they were any good. But we had them!

I wish they would bring the chocolate twinkies back! I remember them from the early 90s. Devils food cakes filled with cream. . . MMMMM!

I LOVED chocolate twinkies. No one believes me or remembers. And I'm pretty sure there was no special name. We had these in the 80's, I think, and they weren't around for very long. But I liked them better than the regular.

I'm so glad I found this thread! I LOVED chocolate twinkies but I thought I was the only person on earth who remembered them. My family looks at me like I'm crazy. I wrote to Hostess, who was equally blank. Their best suggestion was the Devil Dogs, but they're not the same thing nor as good.

I *loved* the chocolate Twinkies and miss them greatly! About the closest thing available nowadays is a Suzy-Q. It's the same (or very similar) kind of cake, same kind of filling, but chocolate Twinkies were a lot less messy.

Can't we start a "Chocolate Twinkie" movement?

Same story here got it at an outlet in Clinton Twp. Mi several years ago & they said they rarely ever get them, they are awsome, I was just telling a cousin about them last week & she didn't believe me, she also thought I meant Susie Q.

Ahhhh! The chocolate twinkie. I MISS them. Used to get them at a little store (NH VT border) on the way to Sugarbush VT to go skiing. I wish they would bring them back!! They are definately different from the Chocodile, which was a chocolate covered twinkie.
Aimee - January 03, 2011 - Report this comment
NO, they were NOT Chocodiles! And NO, they didn't have any frosting. I think they called them Devil's Food Twinkies, and I remember them being out in the mid-80's due to which gas station I went to get them. 1982-1984-ish.
michelle - January 23, 2011 - Report this comment
they still make the chocolate twinkies, just very limited editions, hopefully they will come back out with them soon. Chocodiles are completely different, choc twinkies are awesome!!
michelle - January 23, 2011 - Report this comment
I went to the hostess site and sent them feedback to brink back the choc twinkie to all stores. Its the 80th anniversary of the twinkie so I bet we will see in stores this year!! Go to the hostess site and leave feedback as well.

Jesse was right on! I remember them being called "chocolate fingers". They were basically almost the same as a Hostess Cupcake except their shape was that of a Twinkie. They had some chocolate icing only on top along with the white swirl on top. It was chocolate cake with delicious white creme filling. I believe they came 6 to a package. They were delicious! To bad I can only enjoy the memory of this cake. By the way, I also loved and miss Tip Top Lucky Cakes.

I remember these - but I remember them from the early 70's not the 80's. Amazing how many people don't remember these. Glad to have a name for them.

When I was a kid we had chocolate twinkies and straberry flavor twinkies too. They were the WONDER brand and they stopped making them, I don't know why. This was in Mexico.(I'm 42 now) I think that they should make those flavors again if they really want to increase their sales.

I'm starting to think I'm crazy, but I remember Twinkies which had the usual yellow sponge cake with chocolate icing on top (not choc. dipped) with the cupcake-style white squiggle down the center. This would be from the 1950's in New York City. Anyone ever see or hear about such a thing?

I have even searched eBay and Amazon to purchase some!Does anyone have any idea where I can purchase some? A store in New Jersey has some but you have to pick them up.

I used to eat a lot of Chocolate Fingers (the correct name for the snack cakes). Unlike the picture, they came chocolate frosted with white squiggles in the same manner as the cupcakes. Also, they came in a package of three.

I LOVED those chocolate Twinkies. They were among the best chocolate store-bought pastries. They were my favorite for the brief time Hostess made them. Most people haven't even heard of them. Thanks for posting a picture. I wish Hostess Brands, LLC would make them!

My husband just brought back Chocolate Twinkies (Hostess brand) from Kansas City MO. Like as of last week (7-2015). I personally hate Twinkies, but wanted to let you guys know.

Anyone else remember regular yellow Twinkies with a strip of chocolate icing on top. I think even with the white squiggle?
Beth - April 11, 2019 - Report this comment
Alan, somehow I missed your comment. Yes, the chocolate frosted ones would have been in the 50's but I would have had them in southern RI. I was thinking I made it up too. I'm the only one in the family who remembers them.
Caroline - October 20, 2019 - Report this comment
In response to Charlie. YES. There was a golden cake twinkie with chocolate icing and a white squiggle on the top. They were dreamy. Got them in "corner stores" in the 50s near Boston, Massachusetts
