This bar was like a cream color with a chocolate swirl on top of it. This bar was in a clear wrapper and tasted of a thin wafer and cinnamon.

I remember the Danish Bar very clearly. I loved these bars. I recall two flavors. A creamy white colour with red or yellow swirls. The red tasted of cinnamon danish. The yellow tasted of lemon danish. The creamy coating and thin wafers made a light snack. I loved them and wished they would come back.

Maybe it's time the big chocolate bar companies bring this classic back to life. I truly believe that they would be a big seller. I am not sure which company made them, but perhaps Lowreys was the company. They also made a cherry blossom bar. It resembled the one in the little yellow box. But this one seemed much bigger at the time and was packaged in a light pink wrapper and had a picture of a bright red cherry on top. The word Lowreys is still clear in my mind. So bring back the Danish Bar, the new generation would love them.

finally ....other folks who know what a danish bar is or should I say was. I can still taste the flavor just thinking about this delectable bar.As a kid I would take in the pop bottles to the avondale store and buy a danish bar. I alway bought the red or pink? swirl but recall there being 2 types. Does anyone know if these are still made and what company made them?

I also finally found others who remember the Danish bar, wow. I think that the Danish bar was made with white chocolate and was similar to a Snack Bar. I grew up in a store and remember them clearly as they were my favorite. (Note to Cheri above: are you talking about Avondale in Newfoundland??)

This was one of mine and my twin sisters favorites. Mom used to hide them under our pillow as a surprise. Also the Ice Breaker bar that is no longer, was one of our favorites.....

Memories, the last 2 comments are my thoughts exactly. My favorite as a girl was the Cinnamon Danish and my sister always bought a Wigwag. We both loved the Rum N Butter (better than Caramilk).

Does anyone know if these were also in the US? I have been looking for about 30 years now to find this candybar. My husband just sent me the picture today and I was so excited to finally have something close to what I remembered. I don't remember it as a Danish Bar but the description and everyone's recollection of how it tasted are spot on. So good... Hope to see it remade soon.

These Chocolate bars were so delicious, I wish they would bring them back. I do remember the first time I purchased a Danish bar, (white chocolate-pink lines.) I walked out the corner store with one, took a bite and went back and got another one. Dee-lish!

The Neilson Dairy Company of Toronto goes back to 1893. Today, it is under the Supato umbrella of international companies. Don't know much about the Danish Bar, but the Virginia Bar pictured resembles a Hershey or Nestle bar with almonds. Sales and distribution likely were restricted to Canada.

YES! I remember these things. It was one of my favorites growing up and with the exception of my sister nobody else seems to remember them. I really wish they'd bring these back just for nostalgia purposes.

I was thinking it was a Mandela effect , nobody remembered this bar, I remember it being in a wrapper where I could see the vanilla coated like chocolate as it had a window clear wrapper . I was about 7 years old maybe 1974-75 they were from Canada where I live. Nice too see I am not crazy and others remember this that I treasure as part of my childhood.

OMG!The Neilson Lemon waffer Danish was my very favorite bar as a kid & still Deliciously haunts my taste buds today at almost 50! I loved the Cinamon Danish as well & I often think specifically of these 2 bars regularly! My dream would be that they'd start to make these incredibly delicious bars again & selling them everywhere! What a fantastic childhood it was because of these treats!

I loved these! omg I can not believe so many people remember them. I was little and my mom would let me have one while she shopped for groceries! haha I LOVED THEM....like actually think of them often!!!

Could you collect letters from these bars to spell something for a free bar or a prize maybe? I think the lemon one is what I am remembering from my childhood, but I remember the cardboard piece underneath maybe had a letter printed on it?

I have thought of these so many times over the years. Crave them immensely!! Can picture them in the clear wrap and know exactly how they taste. Someone PLEASE get Saputo or neilsens to start producing them again! Retro is very in so these need to be included - we baby boomers command such a large share of the market, it should be a no brainer for a company to put out candy from our childhood.
Susan - February 07, 2019 - Report this comment
The Neilson Dainish was my favorite, along with Bar Six, and Rum & butter. Everyone should write to the company and try to get them to bring them back.

I have searched the internet to try to find info in this bar, finally ! The Danish was delicious ! I would walk home from school grade 2 ( 1974) and buy a Danish bar on Fridays at the corner store .... loved that bar . I can still taste it 😁

I remember these, Neilsons Lemon and Cherry danish. At least those were the two available in my part of Ontario. They were just like a Mr. Big bar except with white chocolate and fruit flavor added throughout, and yes, yellow or pink thin stripes zigzagging across the bar. The center was a wafer like Mr. Big has, and then caramel holding crisps to it. And yes it was in a clear cellophane wrapper on a little cardboard tray. This would have been in the mid 70s in Prince Edward County, at Friendly Fred’s grocery. I also remember Rum & Butter bar, yes they were better than Caramilk. I also remember 4 Flavor, and Treasures. I forget what exactly treasures was except that it was a bar of ‘pockets’ like a Caramilk.

My dad had a drugstore and I would go in to 'help' out on the weekends by organizing (reading) comic books and refilling the chocolate bars from the stock room. As a kid I probably sampled all the bars, and not one even came close to the taste of the Danish bar with the red or yellow swirl. It was love at first bite the memory of the sweet taste haunts me to this day. I remember the sweet wafers and white chocolate. If I was on execution row and had a last meal request, this would be top on the list for the last taste on the way out of this world.

Ha I remember these from the 70's. My Mum would often buy these for us from the vending machine at the Canada Games Poll in New Westminster BC after swimming practice. I preferred the original cinnamon one. Crispy, chewy, yummy!

Google is an amazing thing. I've been trying to remember the name of my favourite childhood candy bar. Grew up in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia in the 70's and this was my go to when given the chance. I remember walking through a corner shop in Halifax near the Lobster Hutch and getting one. I remembered it was white chocolate with a brown drizzled stripe and crisp inside, so it would have been the cinnamon one. Thankfully I've now found the name again. Maybe Nielson could be convinced to return it as a retro edition. It would be a genius move and I'm convinced a seller. Pocket money was just enough to cover a bag of Hostess Sour Cream and Chive, or Ketchup, or a Hot Rod. Does anyone remember the Hostess Grape flavour chips?

We were allowed to pick a treat at the store when on vacation - I always chose a Danish bar. I think the swirl was pink. All I know is that 40+ years on, I still crave them. What does that say about them?!?

the rumour around was Danish bars had worms found in them and that is why they left the market urban myth i am sure

They was my favour bars during the late 70’s I bought a full box of them and made myself sick of them not long after they was gone, before they mid 80’s I was looking for them again, what I would do for one now the wrapper was a little different here in Newfoundland.Tunnocks Carmel Log is one of my favourite bars now but still log to have a couple boxes of Danish in my deep freeze. I googled Neilson Danish chocolate bars for years I never found a thing on it

After our swim, my dad used to buy us kids one Danish bar to share from the vending machine at the old Percy Norman Pool. I remember them as being my favorite treat, and I think of them with fondness even four decades (plus) on.

I remember the commercial for the Danish bar which was all about, "It's Not A Chocolate Bar." I tried the Danish and I was hooked. Nothing like a bottle of Dr Pepper and a Danish bar from the local Green Gables store.

To SGGW, I grew up in Southwest Nova in the 70’s. I remember the Danish bar quite well, and most definitely remember those horrible grape flavoured chips !!! I wish the Danish bar would make a retro-type comeback, and I certainly hope those grape chips remain a thing of the past. Cheers.

I was 16 in 1974 and working my first summer job at the Island Yacht Club in Toronto. One of the members must have been an executive at Neilson, because he handed me a Danish bar and said, "We're coming out with this new candy bar, what do you think of it?". I became instantly addicted to them!
