Description
Wow! I wish these were still around, I couldn't find them anywhere on the internet. These were a Willy Wonka candy that were the "Evil Twin" of Gobstoppers. Same size box, only box was black and the little "Gobstopper" had flames, same size candy, only they were HOT. Almost like Atomic Fireballs only smaller so you could be less conspicuous in class. I also like the taste a bit better than Fireballs. Fireballs have now copied them with a smaller version, but they are wrapped. I miss being able to pop them out of the box in junior high 1984.

Yeah, these were the best. My favorite! Wish I could buy them again. If I remember correctly, they were hot, then had a cool layer, then a tarty cinnamon center? They were awesome!

i used to love these things as a kid in the early 80s! i never saw them come in a box, the ones in my area came 5 to a pack in some kind of plastic wrapper. i used to buy them from the snack bar at my little league games, haha. as mentioned above, they had a hot layer, then a cool-down layer, then a hot layer, etc. the center was "cool" and was very similar to the center of a gobstopper. i think there was even a cutaway drawing on the side of the package that illustrated they layers. these were way better than atomic fireballs!

DARE DEVILS!! Absolutely the best! Atomic Fireballs can't hold a candle to 'em... Sigh, why do some things have to disappear?

There was another version of the Gobstoppers around this time, called Mix-Ups, I think. As you sucked them, they changed colors, but the colors wouldn't correspond to the flavor. Like red would taste like grape, orange would taste like cherry, etc. Anyone else remember these?

I remember having these in '83-'84. They were initially standard size and then went to smaller size. These things were HOT and made the Atomic Fireball weak. These as well as Dina Sour Eggs were my favorites as a kid.

I was just looking for more info on these and ONLY found this webpage! I miss Daredevils! I remember both the larger and smaller sizes -- absolutely HOTTER than Atomic Fireball, with alternating cool/ hot layers to give you a break. I had so many of these my mouth got sores! Didn't want to eat anything with cinnamon for quite awhile after. I wonder if they stopped making them because they were too hot??

Hi gang, Just posted an article on Wonka's Daredevils over at CollectingCandy dot com. Can't post links here, so you'll have to do a search for Daredevils on the site. I will submit a site link via the link submission process at the top of the page, though. -Jason

I searched the internet trying to find if I could buy these. I miss them so much, definitely my childhood favorite. I remember them being almost too hot to get through the outer layer (I only remember the big ones). I know that no links are allowed, but since there is no picture I thought I would point out that my Google search turned up CollectingCandy dot com, where Jason (a collector of candy packaging) has turned up a single DareDevils box after a very long and difficult search. Maybe he would consent to let you use the image.

I was just reminiscing about the 80's candies. The daredevils, wacky wafers and grape swedish fish. I wish they would come back!!!
