I was at Market Basket in Raynham, Massachusetts last Thursday and they are selling six-pack boxes of Flaky Puffs from Vachon! Only they are now called "Passion Flakie", but they're the same things I remember from my childhood! :D

I have found Flaky puffs made by some brand I never heard of! The ones I remembered a s a kid were called "Pick 'em Up's" made by drakes. These new ones taste exactly the same and are made by a company called Taste 'n Tell, and they call them "pastry puffs". Found them at the Family Dollar. (western MA)

They carry them at Market Basket. Apple raspberry and cream. As soon as Arthur T is back and I start shopping there again I'm gonna grab a few boxes. You all got my mouth watering :p

Billy - December 12, 2015 - Report this comment
They were from Canada and made by Vachon. Vachon Flaky Puffs. They were good. I used to buy them here in Brighton, Mass. You may have to go to Canada to get them. I think they call them "Pastry Puffs" now (or that was the original name in Canada). I bought some May West cupcakes at Market Basket that are made by Vachon. Maybe if we write the company they'll bring them back ?

Also grew up in MA and loved flakey puffs. Now living in NJ and recently found Sara Lee's version called Raspberry Creme Flaky. They are an identical match. Ahhh childhood memories.
Dee - September 12, 2016 - Report this comment
I've never had the Vachon pastries, but Sara Lee makes a raspberry Creme flaky pastry, that sounds similar. Six in a box individually wrapped. It's a new item I found in Giant Eagle in the Pittsburgh PA area. Delicious! I could eat the whole box in one sitting! I bet this is close to the Vachon pastry you are talking about!

Yep. Grew up in MA as well. Flaky Puff was THE snack to have in your lunch during the late 70s/Early 80s. My mother rarely, if ever, bought them because they were too sugary. After I finish this message, I'm going to get a box or two of Pick 'em Ups and nobody can stop me.
Goochman - August 09, 2017 - Report this comment
They still do exist. I live in Canada now. Vachon is a Canadian company. They’re still available here. I haven’t checked but I bet you could find them on Amazon.

I grew up outside Worcester and never realized these were a Massachusetts-only thing!??! So delicious, I keep on thinking of the TV ad. I wish I could find either the ad or the flaky puffs online, but no luck. I think you can make your own, though, with puff pastry dough and a ton of demerara sugar.
Billy Beans - April 21, 2021 - Report this comment
We had them in ME also. I remember them hitting the stores around '82 or '83. The shelves would be empty of them almost as soon as they were put out.

I live in Massachusetts too and remember flaky puffs. Entennmans makes something like them called Minis Raspberry creme puffs, not even close to how good rain puffs were.

I grew up in Sturbridge, MA and LOVED these! They had the best commercials too! Entenmann's makes a pretty good one called Minis Raspberry Creme Puffs but they only come in that flavor
Mikey - December 01, 2023 - Report this comment
Guess I’m not the only one who misses these! MA native as well. The commercial with the construction guys was the best. They were definitely made by Vachon. I had no idea it was a regional item and can’t believe they aren’t sold anymore!
Brockton - January 21, 2024 - Report this comment
Cat is right! I loved Flaky puffs BUT Entenman's makes a terrific knock-off! Raspberry goodness! Better than nothing since there's no time machine. xo
