Description
I try to find this everywhere. It came in individual pieces wrapped in an orange wrapper with a little Confucious guy on it. Inside you got gum and a funny fortune. Remember it?

I used to get this gum from the "ice cream man" after school, kids used to buy it by the bagfuls. I moved to NY years ago and I found it up in Cape Cod at a Candy Store in one of those quaint little towns...We saved a piece of it...one lonely little piece. I bet it has the manufacturers info. I'll ask my hubby where he put it...and I'll post it here :o) I still remember putting like eight or ten pieces at a time in my mouth and blowing huge bubbles...zeesh I miss that gum.

Wow I want some of this gum. I was just talking about 80's candy with my friends when I remembered this gum, there was no flavor like it - loaded with sweetness. Glad I came across this website to show them a picture, but I'm bummed they discontinued it. I used to get it from the ice cream man, and one of the highlights of my youth was when he gave me half a box for free at the end of one summer. I am a candy addict and this was definitely one of the best.

I used to get this as a kid. I havent seen it in about 15 years. I wish Willy Wonka or someone would buy the rights and put it out again. Lost its flavor fast, but man was it awesome.
Bill - July 11, 2008 - Report this comment
This will never be brought back. Somebody somewhere will be offended by the picture or the will feel that is is an attempt to reduce some people to a stereotype of fortune providers. Notice that the Gobstopper character no longer has buck teeth. I'm sure someone with buck teeth complained. Sad, but it is the way society is these days.
Tammy - July 24, 2008 - Report this comment
This gum was amazing! The flavor was so juicy but of course it was gone within minutes, necessitating the need for another piece to top it off. That waxy texture was awesome too! I so wish it was still available. I would buy tubs of it.

I miss this gum and the fun in taking a moment out of a very relaxed childhood day to see what everyone got for a fortune.Used to go straight to the penny candy counter of May Saris' store, with a buck and just rake it in. Jolly Rancher stix were long and flat. They were also the most expencive selection - 10 cents! Mary Janes - squerils, bulls eyes, lemon heads and of course fortune bubble< all for a penny a piece.

I once blew a 28 inch diameter with this stuff. I had a system. Two pieces for about an hour till it became hard to chew, then introduce a third piece to soften things up and I could get 18 to 24 inches every time. I want to find it just to show my kids the enormous bubbles it can create.

I loved Fortune Gum because (1) it was only a penny...and it was EASY to find a penny and (2) the fortunes always cracked me up. My 2 favorites (or at least the 2 I can remember): [1] Never trust a duck in a raincoat. [2] Never accept a ride from a three-legged camel.

My grandmother used to buy this gum for us in bulk from a local grocery company ( late 70's / early 80's ) . It's a crime that it's been discontinued , but to me Big Bol gum tastes almost exactly like Fortune Gum ... just without the awesome orange wrapper . Let's face it , they would have to change the wrapper if they were to start producing it again . Remember it as it was I guess .

Seriously, this is the best gum ever. So many memories of tearing open package after package and shoving it into my mouth. Plus my brother and I collected all the fortunes (they were numbered). Such a unique flavor, nothing in the world tastes like it. Man, what I would do to just taste it one more time, close my eyes and remember the good days. Western pa. There is a store in Zelianople, Pa, they have been on the food network, they have all the old candies, if they still make it they will have it. I think I looked for it and they didn't have it. They did have the little wafer flying saucers with the candies inside.........remember?

I have searched all over the country for years now looking for this gum (my travels even to me into Mexico at one time). The manufacturer of Fortune Gum was out of Brazil. They made the gum for Alberts. If I could figure out who the manufacturer was I would write them a letter; maybe we all could write to them. Im crazy enough to even consider taking out a loan to have the gum manufactured again. When I was a kid I can remember memorizing all of the fortunes; my friends would give me the first word and I would tell them the rest (I could even do them by numbers). Out of all the candy and gum I had in my childhood Fortune Bubble Gum was definitely my favorite! If any one has information please send me an email: tommyvictor@hotmail.com Im serious about getting the ball rolling to have it produced once again.
