I try to find this everywhere. It came in individual pieces wrapped in an orange wrapper with a little Confucious guy on it. Inside you got gum and a funny fortune. Remember it?

I used to get this gum from the "ice cream man" after school, kids used to buy it by the bagfuls. I moved to NY years ago and I found it up in Cape Cod at a Candy Store in one of those quaint little towns...We saved a piece of it...one lonely little piece. I bet it has the manufacturers info. I'll ask my hubby where he put it...and I'll post it here :o) I still remember putting like eight or ten pieces at a time in my mouth and blowing huge bubbles...zeesh I miss that gum.

Wow I want some of this gum. I was just talking about 80's candy with my friends when I remembered this gum, there was no flavor like it - loaded with sweetness. Glad I came across this website to show them a picture, but I'm bummed they discontinued it. I used to get it from the ice cream man, and one of the highlights of my youth was when he gave me half a box for free at the end of one summer. I am a candy addict and this was definitely one of the best.

I used to get this as a kid. I havent seen it in about 15 years. I wish Willy Wonka or someone would buy the rights and put it out again. Lost its flavor fast, but man was it awesome.
Bill - July 11, 2008 - Report this comment
This will never be brought back. Somebody somewhere will be offended by the picture or the will feel that is is an attempt to reduce some people to a stereotype of fortune providers. Notice that the Gobstopper character no longer has buck teeth. I'm sure someone with buck teeth complained. Sad, but it is the way society is these days.
Tammy - July 24, 2008 - Report this comment
This gum was amazing! The flavor was so juicy but of course it was gone within minutes, necessitating the need for another piece to top it off. That waxy texture was awesome too! I so wish it was still available. I would buy tubs of it.

I miss this gum and the fun in taking a moment out of a very relaxed childhood day to see what everyone got for a fortune.Used to go straight to the penny candy counter of May Saris' store, with a buck and just rake it in. Jolly Rancher stix were long and flat. They were also the most expencive selection - 10 cents! Mary Janes - squerils, bulls eyes, lemon heads and of course fortune bubble< all for a penny a piece.

My grandmother used to buy this gum for us in bulk from a local grocery company ( late 70's / early 80's ) . It's a crime that it's been discontinued , but to me Big Bol gum tastes almost exactly like Fortune Gum ... just without the awesome orange wrapper . Let's face it , they would have to change the wrapper if they were to start producing it again . Remember it as it was I guess .

I have searched all over the country for years now looking for this gum (my travels even to me into Mexico at one time). The manufacturer of Fortune Gum was out of Brazil. They made the gum for Alberts. If I could figure out who the manufacturer was I would write them a letter; maybe we all could write to them. Im crazy enough to even consider taking out a loan to have the gum manufactured again. When I was a kid I can remember memorizing all of the fortunes; my friends would give me the first word and I would tell them the rest (I could even do them by numbers). Out of all the candy and gum I had in my childhood Fortune Bubble Gum was definitely my favorite! If any one has information please send me an email: tommyvictor@hotmail.com Im serious about getting the ball rolling to have it produced once again.

Everyone use to eat this gum and then our crooked principle Mr. Coleman would steal it all from us. I remember chewing this gum till i couldnt chew no more! The flavor is the ABSOLUTE best ever! This gum is a huge part of the memories of the school days! With all this demand for this gum it is a wonder WHY no one has brought it back!If anyone ever finds some or it comes back it will most likely sell out fast. So Sad, Used to chew this gum at Rachel's and later Santanna's in Rio Hondo, Texas. To let you know, I met a rep from the company once who came to Santanna's as they sold so much FORTUNE GUM. He told me I couldn't guess what it was flavored with. I am a super-taster, my mother was one too and could replicate any recipe. I told him it was MAPLE SYRUP. My answer stunned him so much, he said "That's right!" So that is the secret of FORTUNE GUM.

Not sure why it is 80's gum. I used to go to the local drug store during lunch break from elementary school, we would buy penny candy. I always got the chinese gum wrapped in the orange wrapper. I was 9 yrs. old in 1974. So the candy was offered in the 70s. I just remember its distinct flavor. Nothing like it. I remember the sound of the gum and other penny candy as it dropped into the extra small paper bag. Takes me back. I have been searching for this gum for some time now. Where can I get some?!

Hands down this was the best gum ever! The flavor was second to none, albeit it only lasted a minute or two, but that was part of the appeal! Because you just had to have piece after piece after piece! I remember getting this from the ice cream truck in the early to mid-90's in southeastern Massachusetts. A penny a piece; I'd have two quarters in my hand and walk away with a small paper bag full. And because the ice cream truck was the only place that sold it, it was the highlight of every summer. Summer didn't officially start until I got my first bag of fortune gum. And then we moved away to an arena where the ice cream truck didn't visit, and summer was never quite the same. Gosh I miss that gum.

In the mid 80s my aunt used to walk about 12 of us to the candy store on our way to after school care. The taste of the gum was so sweet and distinct, but the flavor was gone after 258-263 chews...how could i remember? Because I would count and chew as we walked down the street lol!! I still remember that number because pretty soon it became a game to see how many extra chews I could get in before it turned to stone in my mouth :) Tyreke Hendrix if you have one in your hand right now, you'd better send it to me in California!!

Wow, I'm not alone :)I remember this gum from the little age of four, we live in a small town on the coast of Maine where we used to have a local penny candy store that I used to visit with my aunts. I'm not sure what they put in this stuff but it was soooo delish! I think of it often along with one other type of chewy (not sour)cherry ball? Hearta I wish this was Bazooka Joe & maybe we would have a chance on finding it, this was way better ;)

I have been talking about this gum lately! Wishing I could find some, but I guess that ain't happening! I did come across some gum at the Dollar General called Pal that tastes a good bit like it tho, and even gets hard and loses its flavor too!!

they still make this gum only now it comes as fortune cookies but the taste is the same

I as well was a junky for this gum. I've done some research on it and found out the maker of the gum is R.L. Albert & Son in Stamford,Ct. I believe if enough of us contact them with our request to bring back the gum it could happen. Also mention that they need to review this site to see how many people all over the country love that gum. Good luck!

I remember being in the 6th grade and being bused to school. There was a lady in the neighborhood where our school was that sold this gum. We would get one of the kids that lived in the neighborhood to get it for us. A penny a piece. It was the best gum. I see that someone says it's coming back in April. I will keep checking that site. :)

Absolutely, beyond a shadow of a doubt the best gum ever. I actually still crave it like an addiction. You would think with the popularity it would be recreated or at least a gum with similar flavor come out. The strange thing is that I can still remember the flavor but I can't describe it! South MS at Mr. Bobby Barial's store every time we passed. A penny a piece. A pack of baseball cards and a bunch of Fortune Bubble!

I'm from the Pittsburgh area also (Latrobe) and followed up with a message to R.L. Albert, who in fact responded back quickly. Advising that it should be out on the market in late July 2014. They also provided me with the brokers name and number for the PA market: broker EISMAN GLEIT 610-278-0841 ..I guess this would apply to those that have a businesses to sell Fortune Bubble Gum... 5/21/2014

The item originally was supposed to come in this month but has been postponed until next spring approx. April 2015. L I am told there is a site where many have been communication about the fortune bubblegum so if you visit this site can you pass this on if not a problem for you. I'm 42 and life was so different back in the 80's. So wish it could still be that way for her, but her being able to have some Fortune Gum will wonderful!!

I spoke to the owner of a candy shop on Cape Cod last summer. He has a small stash for himself, but sells an item that has a VERY similar flavor. I will say..... it was pretty close.

The ice cream man would trade u an empty can for a stick. It was awesome. See the truck coming and then go grab a can on the side of the road, wave him down and get it. I did this everyday at the park when I was a kid.

My fortune gum just arrived by UPS and I am disappointed. It does not taste anything near like it did in the 70s and 80s. You will be better off buying regular bubble gum. :(
Kevin - July 09, 2015 - Report this comment
I just got mine in the mail today, and Stephanie is right, it does not taste like it used to. I don't know why they changed the taste, but it's garbage. What a let down.

Thanks for confirming, Kevin. The 80's fortune gum was hard and tasted more like the Big-blo made by the same company. We were deceived. It really does taste like regular bubble gum. I will be giving mine away to the kiddos who comee into the firm. :(

I too have been searching for this gum for years. I was so excited when I recently learned it was available again. I ordered 4 boxes. Got them yesterday. At first glance they looked different, I didn't remember the piece being so long and thick, but if it tastes the same who cares. But I tried my first piece and was nothing like I remembered. It tasted kinda like Bazooka gum to me. I figured maybe that was how it tasted back then and my memory was wrong, but after reading the other comments I would say it's definitely different. What a let down.
Barton - July 16, 2015 - Report this comment
That's my thing, I can't remember. I don't remember the sticks being that thick and I agree it tastes like Bazooka, but it's been a long time and I don't trust my memory...........

Just got some and no it is definitely not the original . A local candy shop is selling it for 25 ¢ a piece , glad I didn't have to buy a case . It's basic bubble gum , pink in color and twice as thick ! Fortune bubble was orange...

Man I use to ride my Knightrider big wheel with like 20 Fortune Gum sticks in each of my pocket from the ice cream truck licking a Blueberry Screwball with the gumball at the bottom. Damn I miss them days. I heard the new Fortune Gum don't taste the same as the 80's. Maybe we all should maybe find an original wrapper on Google and look for the gum manufacturer that produce these good tasting gums and see if they can reproduce the original flavor Fortune Gum. Talking about this gum I can actually taste the gum talking about it. Lol

Just ordered 10 sticks of the original from the Candy Co. (set me back $1.85 per stick) but if it is the real deal, it will be well worth it. Stay tuned! I have the ones from Albert & Son's so I will be able to compare. The gentlemen warned me that it is hard as a rock with it being over 20 years old! Can't wait!

I too am a fortune bubble fiend. My goodness I miss this candy, around the time I was buying this candy it was only 1 cent per stick so me and my school mates would buy at least 50 or more. The taste was amazing. So fast forward to now and they are selling it online but trust me, it is not the same. That distinct taste from back in the days can not be replicated. Please bring back the exact ingredient... What really happened?
